Brands of premium gas

I have used nothing but Amoco/BP ultimate in my Acura's. I've never had a fuel issue in any of my cars, and they always passed emissions with fling colors.
Then again I've used no-name junk in my beater cars and never had an issue either. In either case I use a bottle of Regane Fuel System cleaner every 5k.

The acura has a hi compression engine- its not your old beater car
Seafoam will remove carbon buildup and clean the injectors really well.
the TL requires Tier 1 status gas, all the brands listed above comply
The dose of techroline in the station tanks is marginal at best- its called a maitenance dose and if used all the time, after 5000 miles it will slowly clean stuff out. Seafoam works right now~ or a big bottle of tech or BG or.... check the directions for MAX dose and use it.
Use something- the stuff in gas is bad- keep your engine clean and maintain the low emssion levels we enjoy on smog test, like my recent Ca dyno rolling wheel smog check.
Allowable 45- average of all cars tested 4, measured= 1 and measured= zero
I was pleased

Something to consider all gasoline in the country comes from a hand full of refineries. That being said I buy 93oct gas from any station that carries it. But I still like to go to one of those name brand places. They usually have a guarantee on their gas. Not that you could prove it but whatever thats better than nothing.

It is true that the tankers fill up at the same place- but in between each load of gas the driver has to flush the tanks clean, and then each brands secret sauce is added as one of the last steps before it hits the tanker- so techroline isnt in every gas sold, and while robbies or speediegas may have decent BASE quality- it lacks the Tier 1 rating that acura says to use. My TL does not like am/pm, is ok with 76 but prefers chevron/texaco (same company now) or Shell. 91 octane or higher!!
Make sure to run some sort of fuel system cleaner now and then, to keep the engine clean inside. Makes a huge differance in mileage and general running
If your car lugged on Vpower- maybe its cleaners were at full effort to rid the injectors, valves and pistons of crud buildup. It will run funky while these are happening then smooth out--one reason many of us like Seafoam and its near instand results
It would take several tanks before you can feel the continued improvement.
Thats my opine-- based on azine reading, internet research of various gas brands, and experimenting on my 01TL. We are each free to use whatever we like- isnt america great!

I did only Chevron for years, the some Shell V-Power, but lately I have run Quick Trip exclusevly since they are a top tier gas and seem to be proud of their gas. I also liek the fact that it is 93 octane vs. 91 for Chevron. Also Chevron near me tends to be a bit procey. Well I track my feul mileage manually for years and the funny thing is my fist 08 Type-S which was mostly Chevrona nd Shel averaged 21.8 over 8k miles. So far my new Type-S is averaging over 22.5 with exclusively Quick Trip, but only 2400 miles so far. Also a few time I ran to airport which ois a nice hwy run so the number may be skewed a bit, but so far each tank is doing better than most tanks in old Type-S. My guess is the octane is very important , more so than the brand.

The reason for the fourth grade is that they used to carry 94 octane (as seen from one of the comments earlier in this thread from when it was started), but they phased that out due to environmental issues over its MTBE content. The only place I know of now that sells 94 is some Petro-Canada stations.
I've never seen 91 octane anywhere other than those Sunocos except for on a trip to Colorado last summer (where they also had 85 octane instead of 87 for regular, something to do with the altitude). I understand that on the West Coast things are different.
To address the original topic, I'm naturally suspicious of off-brand gas, such as the Liberty station near my house that's often 10¢ a gallon cheaper than the nearby Shell and BP stations. (It used to be an Exxon but lost the franchise.) After polling neighbors and getting nothing but positive responses, I gave it a try and it's been OK, but in the past few days they seem no longer to be much cheaper than anyone else. If all things are equal I'll just use whichever name brand is the most convenient to where I happen to be unless it's outrageously more expensive than other stations I pass.

When I lived in New England it was Sunoco Ultra 94 every time! In AZ the "best" gas is 91 octane unless you want race gas. Arizona has some special blend for emissions control that has a dulling affect on performance and mileage. When I fill up in Vegas (still 91) my car feels a lot more powerful and gets better mileage for that tank.

Trust me i'm not proud of that! If you can't beat them. join them. Is either try to have fun with what i have or Take the MTA to work which is a 2 hour communte or drive my TL for 20 mins to get to work. You pick

i can definitely see a difference between brands in my mpg...
when I fill up with the cheap stuff i get about 28 mpg max highway; however when I fill up with shell i get 30 mpg highway. I take the same road each time and driving conditions are very similar so all the variables are kept to a minimum. Too bad the shell near my house is 20 cents more expensive than the cheapo stuff (i.e. Valero, Citgo, Hess)
i have a 5AT TL S stock and am using 93 octane each time

When I originally made the switch from Citgo to BP with the Malibu, there was a significantly noticible change in performance; for the better, of course. And since then, I've stuck with BP... I live about 2 minutes away from the BP refineries.

Alright one BP'er, I use BP also, my family has been using it (Amoco/Bp) for years, there cars are still going 19 years later with over 200k in miles.
