I was thinking the rotors are different because other auctions have the 3rd gen and 2nd gen separated.

i know you want to upgrade your brakes, but i would probably stay away from any ebay finds. i went with a RacingBrake pad and rotor combo and have been super happy. i had the upgraded aspec pads before but i was sick of the rust on the rotors, so i replaced all components. i bought them from Heeltoe, he is a vendor here. Excelerate also sells a variety of brands if interested.

grooved rotors!!!!- are you sure you even have brake pad remaining? or are running actual metal to metal!

Brembo fronts are large 4 piston calipers-2 on each side of the rotor, caliper black painted with ACURA painted on them in white

The regular calipers are small grey rusty things with 1 piston on 1 side

by the looks of your pic, you do NOT have Brembo brakes. they only come on the manual transmission and type-s TLs. unless you race for a living there really is no need to upgrade the calipers. a good set of pads and rotors should do the trick.

You may want to try R1 Concepts. I had them on my old TSX. I was very happy with them and they look great! Check out the Premium Series at the bottom.

IIRC I paid $198 for the Brembo rotors & $150 for the Brembo pads. Did the change in about 20 minutes.

Was this an upgrade or did it come that way from factory? I thought the calipers were different.. calipers meaning the thing that says Acura on it.

The calipers are stock TL/6MT Brembo's. The rotors are upgrades manufactured by Brembo.

If yours don't look like these they will be a lot less expensive to change, for example 5AT or rear 6MT pads from Acura are only $50.

Racingbrake is the best rotor for A/T's. Check the link above for mrheeltoe (Marcus) information. I've had my 1pc rotors for close to 2 years now and they are great, put it together with the racingbrake pads and you get some real stopping power.

The front rotors for the 99-03 TL and 04-08 TL Base A/T are the same.
The front rotors on the 04-08 TL M/T and 07-08 TL-S A/T or M/T are the same.
The rear rotors on all the 04-08 TL's are the same.

STOPTECH and ROTORA are both great companies.

Acurazine should make these forums *no vendors* allowed. Reason is because "of course" you would support a product where you make money. Well, I am not asking you! I am asking my fellow TL owners.

Wow. That was pretty uncalled for. I was providing info for you and commenting on products I have had extensive experience with. Also just keep in mind that we vendors pay a lot of money so members like yourself don't have to pay for forum membership.

If I was a stand up vendor, and all that, I would wait for members of the forum to post a positive word about me.. I wouldnt butt in.

wow,,I was going to THANK Josh-Excelerate for giving us the expert info

He didnt say ONLY his brands fit, he gave facts on what does fit what year and model level. It was far more accurate than the opinions expressed by members
We dont own every thing made, only our car,,,,while vendors deal with all this every day--its what they know.

go buy some cryo cross drilled slotted in your choice of patterns with lifetime brake pads for $100 on the bay...let us know how they work in a month, 6 months a year from now

Thanks Josh!!- you have helped me and other members countless times
I was wrong on the fronts- doh~

Sometimes I will PM Josh with a thread needing facts cleared up on shocks.sway bar or brake application--the guy knows his parts and works/repairs/modifies our type cars.,
not just a parts salesman--he really does know what fits correctly thru experience

To our other authorized and approved sponsoring vendors, thank you all for making acurazine happen for us---it could cost 10 bucks a month to belong here!

He was clarify the fitment information for you; which nobody else has yet...ease up dude.
Excelerate is actually the few of the so called "stand up" vendors that dorm in this forum...He probably is the only one who provides technical information when needed on performance/and part upgrades; he is one of the few that sort out any issues with his products and make things right, no questions asked...hes one of the few that actually "cares"; remembers your name, car and upgrades you purchased...he is probably one of the few vendors that ships his parts next day and actually stand by his ETAs. He is one of the FIRST and few vendors that specialize in performance parts for our TL/CLs when nobody else had, and always comes out with new and unique bolt on parts. And he def. knows how to build good customer relationships; which is why hes still on this forum and in business. So yea...theres many positive things to be said about excelerate...

As a fellow TL owner -

BTW i have 13", 2 piece, 4 pot STOPTECHs...Doing 100 miles daily @ 80-100mph and slowing down every other minute, the brakes are worth every cent. Never had an experience with brake fade when the kit was put on. Before the kit; all i smelled was my brake material burning up, along with the brake fade...slowing down from just 85-90mph two - four consecutive times. Great mod for the money... purchased from vendor mentioned above along with every other performance part on my TL and supercharged CL.

For someone that didn't even know if they had Brembo's on their car until 2 days ago your getting alittle mouthy aren't you?

I agree with 01tl4tl, go buy some pretty rotors with painted hubs with nice holes drilled into them off ebay and see how your car reacts to braking in 2 months when they are warped to hell.
