Brake Pad Advice for 07 TL Type-S
I need to replace my brake pads (front).
I paid 200$ just for the pads the last time from the dealer.
I'm not about to pay that much this time as it only lasted around 15k miles. What type do you guys recommend?
The ceramic ones or the semi-metallic? Any difference in the cheap onces vs quality ones?
Thanks

****WARNING PUT ON YOUR FLAME SUIT****
Everyone is going to tell you to search. That this has been discussed a Billion times!!!! Yada yada yada...
Anyway I will need my brakes done in a few months also and am looking at duralast gold cmax ceramic pads. I have read a few good posts on them and they don't dust up as much as the stockers. Here is a link. Good luck.

I've heard the same about the Duralast Gold CMAX pads. There are a lot of threads about brake pads. Searching will turn up a lot. Here is on example:

Also the 3G garage has a DIY on replacing the pads. The 3G garage is a great resource.

I'd recommend sticking with ceramic pads.
ROTORA H2 or Hawk ceramics are both great options.
We have pricing on them if you're interested on our website:

You can get the OE pads online for $150. That is about as cheap as you are going to find them.
I've driven a couple other TL's with different pads, personally I think the OE brembo pad stops the best on this car. Ceramics do dust less, but they don't stop the car as well, IMO.

I'm actually shopping around right now. I was just at the dealership and they pretty much told me that because it takes Brembo pads that its going to cost around 500 to change them and resurface the rotor. I'm just going to shop around for some ceramic pads and get new drilled rotors. I asked what are the brembo pads and they said looks like organic metallic. Whatever that means. They gave me a few places to look for a good deal. I'll post what I find.

take off your rotors and clean them with 120 grit sandpaper and wash clean- that gives a fresh surface for the RB pads to bed to- follow the instructions on www.heeltoeauto.com for pad break in.
NEED to remove the old pad material when you change performance pads- they like their own material to material -thats what transfer layer is about during bedding
It takes some work - a few sessions- to really really bed the 500s and they reward you by stopping on a dime and giving 8 cents change
You will appreciate the high speed immediate 80-20 slow downs too~

good idea to flush the brake fluid when doing brake pads- make everything 100% operational. Do it every year- cheap DIY
Easy way to open brembos is open the bleeder nipple and push pistons in and expel some fluid- close bleeder
then do a full brake flush/bleed
to cut down brake dust- wash rims on both sides- wax with SYNTHETIC car wax- a few coats and buff to a shine
Much cleaner and easy to clean when needed!

^^^ ehh I wouldnt sand them down yourself that isnt really the right way to do it. If you want to try and re-use your original rotors then spend the $15 bucks and get them turned at your local auto parts store. Its cheap and gets the job done right.
I do not recommend simply buying new pads and using with your rotors as they were.
I did my brakes last month on my 07 Type S and here is what I did with great results:
Had my original brembo rotors resurfaced for $15 bucks a piece at Pepboys. They came out looking like new. I then installed the Autozone cmax gold ceramics then did the proper "break in" procedure.
So far the brakes are great! They are perfectly smooth, absolutely silent, and I would say they dust about 60% less than the original brembos. As far as stopping power I would say they arent as good as the OEM brembos but its close enough that you dont even notice with everyday driving and these are way more than sufficient for a normal street car. I am VERY happy with them and plus I get a lifetime replacement warranty when they wear down ;-) cant beat that!
