I got bsm thrown in because I asked my dealer to match what clair offered. wheel locks are part of my dealers deal anyway when you buy from the net. also got the wood shifter instead of a trunk tray. all for 1000 under msrp with nav.

digital_b,
Thanks. Mine will be white too. Do you have a pic of your car you can share with us? I think the white BSM blends in well. I am just using my imagination here, though. You got a fine deal yourself also. Cool!

Sorry fellas, Newbie question here:
The purpose of BSM is to protect the door from people dinging your car. So say if a car parked next to you, opens their door and it hits your door, it will obviously leave a mark, BUT with BSM their door will hit your BSM. Won't it still leave a mark on the BSM? Like if i get BSM on my black Acura, won't the ding be on the BSM versus the door? Regardless, there will still be a small dent right?
Thanks for any replies

I don't have the BSM so I don't know what Acura's are comprised of but usually they're made of vinyl or a hardened rubber material. The BSM can get nicked, scratched or dented. I suppose if it got damaged you could just remove it and stick on another new one.

Mine seem pretty resistant to dings, but as kona said, they can be replaced if they get too bad, which is better than trying to cure the ding problem, and it will look better too.

They offer ZERO protection from dings on the TL. Just open the rear door of your TL to see where it's leading edge is going to strike your car, if another TL was parked next to you. Hint: it's not anywhere near the moldings!

Some common vehicles, such as minivans, only have front doors and the rear doors slide so their rear doors are not a threat at all.
Where my car goes (to work, to my garage), the main threats are co-workers (one driver, exiting the front door, usually out of a sedan in the area I park) and my minivan, whose BSMs match perfectly on a level with mine.
Perhaps you drive and park only where people exit the rear doors, in which case BSMs would offer little protection. But to make a blanket statement that the BSMs offer ZERO (and ZERO is a very well-defined term) protection based on where another TL's rear door would hit your TL is a pretty distant leap and simply not true.
The looks on the other hand are in the eye of the beholder and if you don't like the looks and won't have them because of that, just say so.

Dealer list price for BSM is $175.00. I got mine included in the deal for under $200 installed. Installation is a cinch. If I knew it was that easy I would have done it myself but I was afraid I would mess it up so I let them do it. They come with paper templates which you stick on at the crease line and put the moldings at the bottom edge of the template. I have seen a place that sells them for $140+freight but I can't find it now, but if you haven't bought the car yet you can probably work something out with the dealer.
Here is the link for the price

We saw a few TL's about to be delivered last night when we picked up our MDX and they all had BSM. One guy we spoke to had his TL a month and got a couple of small dings but he was lucky and the BSM coverd them up.

Waiting two more days for my Blue TL. This item should have been std equipment on the car. Let's be realistic - The TL is an excellent car - but still, Japanase sheet metal is paper thin (compared to BMW, Mercedes). It takes nothing to dent the stuff. I'm getting BSM it on mine. I don't mind the looks at all, although I'm concerned it'll discolor over time...

Don't worry about them discoloring - if they do, it will be at the same rate as the front/rear bumper
Seriously, today’s paints are pretty resilient to the effects of ultra violet activity. One thing I have noticed lately, including Acura, is that many manufacturers paint jobs/processes are challenged in matching steel panels to plastic/rubber..... Especially the heavy metallics and pearls, dark or light...
