Are you talking about the ambient lighting up by the homelink buttons? They come on with the headlights, and shine down on the shift knob area.

Can't be the light he's talking about haha

"points outside towards the hood"

"only comes on when the key's out"

Must be an aftermarket installed LED.
Could be an LED to deter thieves

the only other thing (stock anyway) that I can think of is the sensor on the BACK side of the rearview mirror, but its doesn't light up.
He must have something added on or just isn't describing it very well.

OP, you need to post a picture of it.

Don't you love it when people come in here and post questions but make no sense, leave out the details, and ignore everyone's response?

take a pic and upload it so that we can see what you are talking about. Everyone here is confused on this light you descibed. We have theories, but unless we see a pic, we cannot really help you out too much.

Its part of the service indicator system for non-drive train components such as the blinker fluid, wiper lubricant, and brake dust gage.

Vipers led are on the bottom of the antenna not pointing forward.

Do you even have the key fob?? if not you might need to order a new one. you can look what the model of the alarm or start of it, by looking under your dash.

you could have the viper system which you can use the oem keyfob to lock and unlock your car and have your oem car alarm and your viper car alarm with remote start, but you would need the viper key fob in order to start the car.

you need this key fob if you have the viper to remote start.

but i cant tell you anything else becuase we dont know what aftermarket system you have. You will have to look under your dash or have best buy or some automotive eletronics installer look for you.

the system i have is the vss4000 which is pretty much a kit made by viper pairing a smart start module with a normal remote start though i dont know which remote start it is. Your antenna looks exactly the same as mine, the blue led usually only flashes while the car is locked and not driving.

thats my remote so id guess its the one you need

When I searched it, it came up as an antenna.

I know that's not the Version for your starter as we don't sell the NS-2422TW anymore.

But the Antenna model number should be close, like FM TW-120 (with an HDR or without, depends on your remotes).

So hopefully you can get a new antenna. And mabye this info will help someone else down the road.

I think a previous owner had some kind of remote start installed. Take your car to any car stereo installation shop, and explain to them the problem. See if they can look at your car and find EXACTLY what was installed, and go from there.

if you feel confident enough, open up your driver side kick panel and see what youve got installed down there
