Spark plug #3 blew. Any idea if this can be fixed with helicoil?

Yes, do a search in the "Problems" forum. Plenty of info on this issue.

i have no idea. Acura is recommending a new cylinder head or the entire engine which we all know it's costing me an arm and both legs.

Did the plug come out intact or was the electrode broken in the cylinder bore? That (if the electrode is gone) could result in need for a new block. The head can be helicoiled or have a Time sert installed but it depends on the level of damage.

Acura's answer is always going to be easy (for them)...new engine. Whether that's the case or not remains to be seen. In one of the other threads, someone had the same issue with the factory installed plugs and Acura covered the repair other than parts for the timing belt change (I assume the owner's car in that case was due for a TB). If you're on the original plugs (meaning they were never taken out by you or a prior owner), it's possible you may get a financial pass on the repair (since plugs should never self extricate from the engine). It can't hurt to ask, and may pay off well.

Good luck!

That tube was trashed, wow. I say try the helicoil, much better to spend $50 to find out rather than a new engine. I did it on #5 on mine and haven't had a problem since. I assume from your username it is a 3.5 Type S? If so, and you don't want to buy a new engine or do their $2500 cylinder head swap, you could always get a newer MDX motor and swap cams - might be some savings there. Hope the helicoil works for you!
