To those who have done this mod:
a) Does a carwash affect it?
b) In the heat does it melt into the roof? I've worked with vinyl and heat is not it's friend.
c) Can it be easily taken off? I'm leasing, I need to know this. It must look like it never was there after claybaring and buffing.
d) I REALLY want this... so be HONEST...

i know a guy that installs it for $160 including the vinyl.
Its an easy DIY. I made a thread on it so you guys can do research on it. And no the sun does not melt it. You have to wax it here and there so it can have a nice shine to it.
Also theres has been many instances where members have done the hood, so the trunk is possible.

I can vouch for Blue Batmobile. I have some of his tint overlays for my headlights. Good stuff-easy to install, quality material.

I had a black vinal overlay on my roof and I took it off. It was not bluebatmobiles but it was a good quality from a paint shop. If not carful on install it will bubble and never be right. I took it off cus I couldn't wash my car as easily before. Paint it. If you find a guy looking to get his name out there they will give you a good deal. I am about to have mine painted in the coming days.

If it were me personally (partly because I have the capability of doing so) I would laminate it. That way you can run it through car washes or what ever you want and it wont mess it up in the slightest bit.

Vinyl is rated by hours. Some uv protected vinyls can last 6 months to a year before fading, some will last only a couple months.Go with paint. It probally wont cost to much more than the vinyl installed and will out last the vinyl everytime. Order yourself a goodfellers catalog, they have the biggest selection anywhere.plus it tells you howl long each will last.I almost got my hood and trunk wraped, in cf,but when I found out it was going to last 3 months before fading That idea got changed fast. Not to mention it cost half as much as a real cf hood and trunk.

I got mine done a few days ago.
They guy who did it for me charged me $160 CDN for everything.
He told me treat just like paint, I can wax it and everything, meaning you should only go into a touchfree car wash if you use any car wash. He also said I can put AmorAll on it to keep it shiny.

I will have mine done in about two days, I ordered the kit from BlueBat, but it doesn't say what to do after applying it. What are you supposed to do after they apply the overlay? Can I drive my car around town and sport the new look? Or do I have to rush to my house and park it in the garage for two days?
Thanks in advance!

My choice was Vinyl, Ive had it for a long time already and only have minor swirl marks but they tend to blend out when I really get in there to detail the roof. A good paint job will run you 300+ to do the roof. Now if you hate it, well best of luck to get the paint on the roof to match the car again. It's a sticker, it goes on and comes off. Take proper care of it and your set. I wouldn't use armor-all on vinyl since it contains petroleum distillates. Petroleum distillates act as a drying agent... It gets that "shiny" look by pulling moisture to the surface. Over time when that moisture evaporates, it leaves your sticker brittle.
Important to clean the roof off and keep it wet as you go to install the overlay.
Now you would want to use any "High gloss" wax for instance I use this
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA280_.jpg
And use Colinite 845 WAX/SEALER to give it a very wet look and keep it sealed. 1x a month if your busy but 2x a month would be better.
I have had a vinyl overlay for 1 1/2 years. The thing about vinyl is:
-If it fades
-If it rips
-If there are swirls
-If they have tears can remove it and replace it with a new overlay.
-If you hate it.. remove it simple as that
With paint
-If it swirls up badly you need a really good buffing or re-paint
-If there are deep scratches you need to re-paint
-If you don't like it YOU SOL, need to repaint car
-When you go to sell your car this may be a problem.

I did my overlays at a pretty popular place (ShinzoWerks) here in Toronto and these guys told me I could use ArmorAll. I guess i'll start waxing it once a month or so. Thanks for letting me know about this.

so what do you do with the XM antenna? I have looked for pics with and couldn't find.
Does that get covered up too or removed completely?
I want to do this mod so bad!!!!! Way better than painting imo, of course if you plan to sell the whip at some point anyway.
Who the hell wants a black roof in Florida???

Someone mentioned $300 to paint the entire roof, so I can't imagine painting just the antenna coming to anymore than $100 at most.

on how the vinyl looks as of today with all the waxing and sealers.
and might as well look at this thread of when I just finished a really good detail look at the vinyl.
