Better to Wait for preferred car or Not?

Hello All ~ I am a previous 2.5 TL owner and am looking at the 3.2 TL. I really love the car, but I have a huge dilemma. I was in an accident so I am in a loan car now. I need to get out of the loan car as soon as possible. The dealership said I have the following options:

1. Get an automatic in the color I want this week.
2. Get a manual (my preference) in a color that isn't my preference this week.
3. Order a car -- manual and right color -- and wait 30-45 days.

I am leaning to waiting on a car, but I don't know if the dealership will put me in a loan car until my car comes. Anyone know or experience this? Also, is that the typical amount of time to wait for an order car? Please advise...

Well ...

Let's say that you are purchasing, and may own the TL for 10+ years (not too unreasonable).

If you're purchasing and you didn't get what you want (color and tranny), you'll probably be regretting it for 10+ years. Considering how much you are spending on your new TL, you should have no regrets on your purchase.

I would view the extra expense of the loaner as part of your vehicle's total cost. You'll forget the extra $$$ that you spent long before you would forget the color & tranny issues, which you would be reminded of every day you got into the car.

If you are leasing, though, it's a different story. You won't ever be owning the car unless you want to purchase the TL at the end of the lease. Since you are just "borrowing" the car for a few years, I'd go for the tranny over the color. Enjoy the driving experience and get your preferred color the next time.

Good Luck ... Let us know your end choice!

Have you called all of the dealers in town (Dallas, Ft. Worth, Irving and Arlington)? The Dallas dealer told me that it would take 45 days, but I called around(today) and found the car I want...I pick it up tomorrow.

Oh, BTW -

Make sure that the dealership isn't yankin' your chain on the deliveries that they claim they can make. Get something in writing that they will give you an unlimited loaner vehicle if your TL isn't delivered within 1 week of their estimated delivery date.

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice. I think everyone is right about getting the car I WANT. They said it would take 30-45 days to order the anthracite/ebony 6mt. Does that sound about right??

Regardless of which car you end up getting, I suggest calling different dealers anyway and NO NOT tell them that your car was wrecked and you need a new one to replace it. They will pounce on your 'desperation' and they will be less likely to give you a deal. Keep the loaner a little longer (a week or two) if it means saving $500+ and getting a car more to your liking.
