i tried pulling off the badges on my 04. It was caked on there. Does not look good. Even tried Goo Gone but its stuck on the clear coat. The glue was rock hard. I want to re apply the badges back one.

I used my industrial heat gun, waving back and forth over the badges keeping constant motion for a minute or two and then the badges just simply pulled off using my fingernail.
I then soak the remains with label/bumper sticker/tar remover for about 5 minutes and it just peels right up very easily.
After that I take a microfiber towel damp with the remover and lightly wipe the outline residue away.
To finish I hand buff polish.
I've gone this route many many times including the TL and you can't even tell they were there, no harm to the paint, etc.
While you've got the label/tar remover handy be sure to scrub the road facing surfaces of the side skirts and rear bumper, the car will greatly thank you. Either that or tell you you're too anal. LOL

some people got lucky i guess. the adhesive on my stock badges just did not come off that easy. the paint would start chipping. i was wondering why the dental floss and fishing line kept tearing. the glue was rock hard and acted as a blade.

Glad I found this post ! I have a black 04 TL and wanted to paint the badges flat black. I tried to remove the trunk lid cover, thinking badges were bolted / screwed on. Well those clips are a bitch to get off ! Lucky I couldn't get them off, which lead me to this forum search. I am just going to tape around badges and paint. Thanks guys !
