banged up my baby! New fender?

I'm so pissed! Yesterday, as I was pulling out of my garage, a friend's minivan was sitting in the driveway. I didn't realize how close I was to it, then ... SCRUNCHHHHHH. 5inchx3inch dent/scrape on the fender over the passenger side back wheel. I felt like crying. (the other car just had a few scratches. I told my friend that I would take care of it)

(back to my baby)

The damage was strictly to the fender (ie not the bumper) and I was wondering if it would be cheaper to just replace that fender vs. going to the body shop to have it repaired/painted?

My car is less than 3 mos old and the color of a new fender would probably match w/o a problem. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks.

Get an estimate and get it fixed. Fenders don't come painted, so you will have to buy the fender, which is over $500, get it painted, around $300 at least, then all the labor to replace it, you're talking about $1,000, if not more. Fixing will probably run around $500, but I can't even really guess because I don't know how much damage there is.

Go to the body shop tomorrow so you won't have to worry about it any longer than you have to. Here's a picture of the rear fender, and the price for it is
006 04646-SEP-A91ZZ PANEL SET, L. RR. (OUTER) (DOT) 1 2004 Acura TL 607.72 486.18

Go here for the parts list https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...=1#post1150968

How can you replace the rear fender without replacing the whole side of the body? I see no line at all separating the car.

You couldn't,
It would have to be cut off then the new one welded on....

JJY,
Just take it to a reputable body shop - maybe your dealer if they're good. Anyway, they will pull the crease out, prep, and blend in the paint. You probably won't even be able to tell it was ever blemished when done.

I know, easy for me to say..... But we do feel your pain.

Best of luck

My brother did the same thing to his car. He took it to a place called Miles Autobody in Gaithersburg, MD. That's where I a having my car repainted after my ex keyed it. They did an amazing job on his car and I will see how they did on my TL tomorrow. They will match the color perfectly I will take pics after I get my car back and post them here. They work with a lot of insurance agencies so they really guarantee their work, if they didn't the insurance would drop the shop from their list.

Thanks

Thanks, guys, for the responses.

It seems that going to the body shop will be the wiser (and more cost-effective) choice.

I have the same dent!!!
Went into the mall and came out a half hour later, and a car must have misjudged how close they were and put a dent all the way from the bumper to the wheel well.

Took it to the dealer and got an estimate of $850

He said they are going to have to pull the dent out and bondo and repaint that area and the drivers side passenger door.

Although I've never used them, Miles Autobody has been around for a long time, and as far as I know, has a good reputation.

I can recommend someone close to you, jjy, if you want to PM me.

FWIW, replacing the quarterpanel is NOT the way to go here. It's like killing a fly with a cannon (overkill.)
