Bad idea to use Auto setting for HID's?

Since our TL's have HID headlights, would leaving it on auto be a bad idea? When I pull in and out of my garage, or go through a tunnel, the HID's will turn on and off in a short amount of time. Should I just use manual settings?

It's okay for them to go on and off as long as they are receiving constant running voltage. It's when you turn them on when the car is off or leave them on while the car is starting at night that it's not good for them.

It's only a wear and tear issue.

I typically leave my headlight stalk in manual mode. I just hate when the headlights go on when I start the car in the garage, then right off as I back out. As people have said above I'm sure they are fine, but I have no problems using them manually. And besides, the 3G's auto setting turns the headlights on wayyyyy too late. If your driving during dusk it's actually pretty surprising how dark it lets it get before it switches the lights on automatically. They fixed that issue with the 4G.

Are you guys talking 07-08? Because my 05 doesnt even have an auto setting even though they do turn on and off automatically if i leave the switch on but then they also stay on while im driving which i dont like during the daytime so i find myself cycling between leaving the switch off during the day and leaving it on after the sun goes down but also cant leave them on at the end of the night because then they'll turn on the next morning... Its pretty dumb because they're not completely auto but they're not completely manual either.

Just don't flash your high beams with the car off, like I did. You will be stranded.
