Interesting...

The MID data of 24/25/111/4:32 is a huge improvement over mine: 18/24/124/5:04 that my MID reads right now. I have had some 65 mph highway miles (perhaps 30) in my stats but yet see a 6 MPG hit for the same MPH reading. I know my car is operating fine and is consistent to how its been running for 6 years.

That is insanely good and doesn't match to the EPA city calculation that you would expect for 24 MPH MID read.

A couple of clarifying questions:

1. you don't run with just a 1/2 tank or have some other significant weight savings thing going on?

2. You don't have higher profile tires than stock?

3. Are you doing anything unusual at stop lights - like shutting down the motor? That could explain a MPG or two.

I have to say the 2004-6 MID photos that have the gas gauge level included are pretty helpful compared to the 2007+ pictures that don't. I would not have had to ask question #1 with a 2004 MID photo.

Another worthless post. You can look at your mpg but it's too hard to look at the mph? Is it too hard to remember two numbers at once? This forum has really gone down ever since the TL became affordable to these kinds of people.

1. who does that?! always full fillup lol
and i carry my basic hand tools around because i hate running up and down to my apartment every time i work on it, and i have like 30lbs of sound deadening?
OH i weigh 130lbs if that counts

2. conti DWS 235/45/17 @ 7/32nd front 6/32nd rear @ front 39 rear 35 cold

3. i thought that was illegal lol no i just slap it in D, unless car sticks in 3rd past 2500rpm, then i slap shift+ into 4th.

4. climate control @ 72, auto and most of the time blasting stereo.

EPA is for average drivers. i'm one of those hypermilers you see and think it's some 80yo grandma
I would take a video of how I drive if i had 2 sync'd cameras for road & dash view.
people say i drive "gracefully" definitely not slow. do I know what that means? no i just try to save gas lol

my strengths are having a instant MPG gauge (OBD2 port. i use my garmin + EcoRoute) and well, having a LOT of time haha

35mph in 4th gives you 37mpg inst., 58mph in 5th gives you 39mpg inst. (i'm 5AT)
it's been a long time i ever hit 65mph

I'm sure you have some hyper-miling habits but there is no way you would get this mileage where I live.

I had to look at a map to get a clue what is going on. Columbia SC is circled by highways and is just a little larger than my city which is Carlsbad and is a suburb of a much larger city called San Diego. We have lots of stop signs and even metered ramps to get to the single highway that goes North/South called highway 5. I have 3 miles to/from 5 and then an easy 4 mile romp to work each day. After that it is tons of traffic lights everywhere you can imagine going in the East/West direction.

I also see that there is a highway generally within 2 miles from any point you are in the general city and that there is a beltway that takes you around the entire city. That is atypical for many of us.

My guess is you spend a lot of time on: 20, 28 or 77 putting around. And then there are a number of feeder express ways that take you to the highways when you're not on them.

^Viper, I rest my case. 24MPG is more likely to occur with a 35+ average MPH than at 25MPH. I'll let you want to credit hyper-miling but my guess is it's also a lot of steady state driving with few lights and short ones at that. I looked at SigAlert today for Columbus and everything was green at rush hour this morning in Columbus anyway- perhaps you don't encounter much traffic?

IMO....If I drive 75 mph for 1 hour on the highway and then 25 mph in stop and go traffic the next hour then I average 50 mph. I'm pretty sure that if I just drove 50 mph for 2 hours and have the same average my MPG will be better.

Deviation means a lot more than averages. But....that's just me.

Your MPG is a little low.. But it depends on where you drive, and how much traffic you have to go through..

Iv had the car for almost a year and at the beginning I was getting 19-20mpg for the first 3-4 month but this was of cold winter driving.. Since the spring I have been getting 26-24mpg consistently..

I went on a 200km trip this summer and got 33 mpg!!.. All Highway.. and I was going at it with a BMW 328 for most of the way.

If you haven’t already I HIGHLY recommend using synthetic oil. Since I did I am consistently getting an extra 25miles to a tank.

My wife's 2006 TL (100K) is generally about 24-26MPG, 34-37MPH. 60/40 highway, city. Strictly highway it is about 28-32. I am surprised at the low 20's and high teens on here. You guys must really rag on it to get that low...I also always put Shell Premium (91 octane, Colorado) in it. I also find the mid to be spot on.

23 city 36 highway.
What has really impressed me is that having a lead foot really doesn't affect the mileage near as much as any other car that I've had. The numbers above reflect what I'm getting under "mature driving practices", but I've had tanks (I track my mileage from fill up to fill up) that I know almost every 0-40 was full throttle and that city number only dropped to 21. The mileage performance balance is one of the things I love the most about my TL.

23/36 sounds mature

yeah if you're calm enough you should be getting those.

It should not be too surprising. Some of us live in high density areas where there are a lot of traffic lights- remember you get ZERO MPG when stopped waiting for a light to turn green. If I have 8 hours on a tank of gas, perhaps one of those hours is consumed at lights so my car is only 7/8's efficient in actually moving while burning gas. You also have to factor in the power it takes to bring a stopped car back up to 35 MPH each time one of those lights gets you. It's that kind of stuff that causes one driver to get 19 MPG while another in another area can get 24 MPG. This also one of the reasons why hybrids do so well in city environments- the engines stop while stopped and an electric assist takes you back up to speed.

With the exception of Viper, I have yet to hear anybody that can squeeze 24 MPG in a city mode of driving at a low 25 MPH value. Also remember the EPA city mode estimate is 18 MPG so some of us that average 18 or 19 MPG are right where the EPA tests line up.

I think some of you guys live in rural areas so you are not stopped nearly as much as many of us. It would be interesting to hear how well you do if you go to a real urban setting- perhaps Denver for you Summit.

2003 CL-S, A/T
K&N air filter element
All else, induction and drive-train stock.
The K&N improved gas mileage a little, maybe 1/2 to 1 MPG, though I installed it for free breathing in acceleration (you definitely notice it). It's the best $40 I have spent on the car.
I do lift off from stops quick (I love the torque, and surprised BMW drivers playing catch up) though I punch this car rarely.
I check MPG every time I fill up.
Here's what I get:

21 to 22 around town

26-1/2 to 28-1/2 mostly freeway, including a twisty mtn road at speed and some stop and start in traffic in my commute.

35.4 MPG is my highest driving with 38 psi N2 in the tires, A/C off, never more than 65 MPH and slow accelerations and planned ahead gentle braking (I was trying for a record here folks), and that was at about 90K miles. That surprised me when the car is rated for 30 MPG hwy, though all of my Hondas have delivered MPG above ratings.

in 100% city driving (my daily commute), my avg speed is around 20-25 KM/h, fuel consumption 13-14L/100KM (17-18 MPG). i fill up in $20 increments for air miles so no idea what the tank range is, but can estimate based on the L/100 numbers

on highway on a recent road trip 100% highway (i reset once i was on the highway), avg speed was 127 KM/h, fuel consumption 8L/100KM (29 MPG), occurred over 400km or so of 100% highway

Yeah it's dippin down to 30's-20's lately. I've noticed I'm down 1MPG. I guess the temps are starting to kick in on the MPG
