Auto transmission indicator not showing...

Hi:

I owned a '07 TL with 10K miles on it.

When put the transmission into drive, the 'D' indicator from the instrumental panel is not shown. I did a simple test on all the selections here is what I found:

Not lit:
N, D.

Lit (working OK):
P, R, L

Has anyone experience this problem ? Please share your experience...

V.

Is that why you sold it? lol j/k
maybe a mis-aligned positioner switch on the linkage not making contact.
As others said..let the dealer have a look

Oh, forgot to tell you another detail, when move/wiggle the transmission knob/shifter a little bit, something got connected and the 'D' or 'N' light will show again.

So, definitely not the light out from the instrumental panel.

the shifter is controlled by 3 electric micro switches, located under the shifter assembly
If something liquid like a soda were to spill in the cup holder-shifter area, it leaks down and gets those contacts corroded or they can fry and die
Sometimes spraying electric cleaner liberally thru the shifter boot will clean and solve the problem
Other times its remove center console to access under shifter and replace the bad switch

Thanks 01tl4tl. I believe that's the case, because the center console is kind of dirty at 1 point and I had to clean it. It seems like the micro switches are not totally dead yet, since it has detect and display the 'D' light when I wiggle a little bit.

BTW, anyone has a diagram how to disassembler the center console ?

OK, here is the solution.

One fine Saturday, my mechanic and I decided to take the center console apart to see if the shifter is broken. It took us 1.5 hrs to get to the shifter. It turned out it is as good as new. Then it took us 1 hr to put it back together.

Then it was dawn him that we replaced the bad car battery in the past, the leak must have damaged the transmission range sensor.

So, I bought the part 28900-RYF-023 and got it replaced today. It works!

I am a happy camper now. :-)
