Auto Trans - Putting into gear lags

Auto Trans - Putting into gear lags
Is it just the nature of the TL automatic transmission to lag a second or 2 before engaging into the gear?
all other cars i've had are much quicker to enter the gear when switching from park to drive, etc...

not too sure, but he also learned that the newer TL's(auto) stays in the same gear, if the vehicle is going around a corner.....
