Audio System/Speakers
Since there is very little chatter in the audio section of the site...I thought I'd post my question here. Sorry for the off-topic post but:
Anyone know who the manufacturer(s) are for the audio system and speakers in the TL??? Thanks!

As for sizes or what speakers they used, I don't know. I'm assuming they're paper - 99.99% of car speakers are paper. Too bad.
The system is awesome as is though. Why mess with it?

According to the four-day cumulative numbers from MORPACE, total preference of ELS Surround over the competing premium systems breaks down as follows:
ELS Surround vs. Bose (Cadillac CTS): 360 of 400 participants preferred ELS (89.8%)
ELS Surround vs. Mark Levinson (Lexus LS 430): 373 of 418 participants preferred ELS (89.2%)
ELS Surround vs. Harman Kardon (Mercedes E-320): 379 of 472 participants preferred ELS (80.3%)
Any questions?

here's the website for the system...

Center Speaker Designs
Neodymium Magnetic Circuit Design focused on producing the dedicated center channel source material available from DVD-Audio recordings. The use of neodymium allows for a low profile, and lightweight device that can be easily packaged by automotive designers, and the unique cone design reproduces the demanding program material with great accuracy.
Subwoofer Speaker Designs
DVD-Audio also provides a dedicated subwoofer channel. Panasonic is applying several design advancements to the subwoofers for DVD-Audio systems. These include:
Tweeter Speaker Designs
With the extended frequency range available with DVD-Audio, Panasonic has designed tweeter speakers, which focus on high frequency reproduction, low distortion while maintaining the high reliability required for automotive applications. These goals are achieved through the use of super thin injection molded diaphragms.
Full Range Speakers
Extended frequency response and improved dynamic range present challenges to the full range speakers, which make up the backbone of in-vehicle audio reproduction. To address these challenges Panasonic has developed speaker products based upon a variety of design elements including:

Time to POWER UP!!
I have taken apart the doors and rear deck in my TL. All of the spkrs are 6.5's and 4 ohm's. They are all made by Panasonic and sound pretty crappy to me.
Today i bought 3 LOC's (line out converters) to be able to install 2 amps (one 4 channel amp for front and rear spkrs and another amp for subs only). I plan to remove the stock sub and add one 10" sub in a 1.66ft sealed box (much deaper, crisper and louder bass). The hole left from the stock sub will be used as a way for the bass to get up into the car. System should sound a lot better.
If any of your are ever in Austin TX holla at me and i will let you listem to it.
Peace!
I prolly wont be done for a while (2 weeks). I spend too much time at work

I also think the TL sound system sounds awesome just the way it is. If anyone thinks that they can make it sound better than Elliott, go for it!! I think people are just never satesfied with a "stock" sound system and insist that it can be made better. I hope spending all that money is worth it and that the stuff blends properly to create a sound as good as stock. The speakers and all matched to sound good together, and unless someone understand acoustics in cars, the chances are that it's going to maybe have more bass...but will it just be more....or better?? I'd personally leave the speaker designing to the experts and be happy with the sound the way it is...it does sound pretty good for a stock system.
