Anyone want a Larger rear view mirror? Found a good one!

Today I got my new rear view mirror. The one I had was waay too small. It was not tall enough so the factory mirror would show. So I found out only Carmate makes a mirror that is tall enough to cover larger factory mirrors like ours. Only place I could find the mirror I needed was on Amazon.

Here is the mirror I purchased:
Carmate PL114A Black Metallic Finish Wide angle Rear View Mirror (I got the 270mm one.. I think if I got one any longer than that, it would interfere with the sun visors)

Here is the new mirror I got:

Here are some pics to show the difference:
Old is on top (Broadway 270mm flat mirror).. the new one is on the bottom:

Old Mirror fitment :

Look at how perfect the new mirror covers the factory mirror! I can see everything now with this mirror like my other one, but now it looks nice!!

Posted this in my progress thread, but thought I would post here since more people would see it here and I could not find anything when searching in the 3G forum.

That's a pretty square mirror, he he...

I would need a bigger rear window opening before I would need a bigger mirror. Even factory I see roof, headrests and both pillards

Good lookin' out posting this up because I doubt anyone else has. I can't think of a reason to even need a bigger mirror. What is it you're not seeing with the OEM mirror? The number of rock chips in the windshield of the vehicle two car-lengths behind you?

If it's so big that you can see otu of your rear seat side windows, then that would pretty much elimiate blind spots.

Leaning forward when looking at mirror + peripheral vision is all I need to check blind spots.

Oh man that thing looks horrible!!!! Why in the world would you need that if you can see the entire rear window and parts of the interior in the OEM mirror? Plus now your losing the autodimming feature!!! People do some funny stuff on these forums ;-)

i personally dont think its that bad of a mod. i mean some people do put on broadway mirrors. i seen some tl here in socal with them. this would be perfect if they are used to the broadway mirror as they might have adapt to it if it was in their previous car. this carmate version does look better then the broadway one for sure as it doesnt leave the bottom out and leave it showing the old mirror. no doubt but a good mod for you if it meets your needs and you dont mind losing the autodim feature!

WOw!! I love this mirror!! I can't believe none of you guys like it.. haha.. most people won't even notice this is not the factory mirror.. But, I love not having blind spots.. I dont understand why auto manufacturers dont make mirrors like this stock?

Anyways, my tint is so retarded dark (came with the car and needs to be replaced when I have extra money), that I do not need the auto dimming feature lol!
Well, if someone is looking for this then at least they know which one fits the best! But, I will always love these mirrors since I get a much better view of the rear!

I always had and have Broadway mirror in my other car. I still always look over my shoulder to make lane change. The bigger mirror just helps me understand who's behind me when I'm going straight better than OEM.
I got another Broadway mirror for TL but it was too small like bzyrice's old one so I'm not using it. OEM mirror looks the cleanest in luxury car but I still miss looking at the whole rear window view and little bit through the side mirror. I might grab this one and try it out.

Aftermarket mirror already has a coating and it reduces the super bright hi-beam.

Good find bzyrice.

Thanks man... honestly, you wont even notice this in your car since it looks more factory then the broadway mirrors.. and yes you are right, these do come with a coating to reduce super bright light..

Here is a link to all of Carmate's mirrors.. took me forever to find one that fit right!
http://www.carmate-usa.com/html_carm...wide_angle.htm

Here are the features that come with these carmate mirrors:
3000R Perfect View
-The next generation of our high performance rear view mirrors
-Unique new hybrid surface offers superior viewing angle while virtually eliminating any distortion related to convex construction
-5mm increase in height covers up unsightly factor mirror
-Built-in sliding mechanism for quick and effortless installation

Wide Angle Rear View Mirrors
-Provides extensive vision that is not available with stock units
-Reduces night time glare by 45% and eliminates overlapped vision
-Conforms to European safety standard which prevents sharp particles from flying off when shattered
-Stylish and clean design brightens up the interior of your vehicle

Oh yah I got the 290 mm one.. not the 270 mm one! lol

I like it already! I am already used to it! You cant even notice that it is concave, so it wasn't that hard to get used to.

My car came with the blind spot mirror on both side of the car. The one on passenger side is useless since the mirror is so small. My eye can not adjust that quick from the big view on the side mirror to much smaller view on the blind mirror so far away. I guess it's only meant to be on the driver's side. I really dont' care for it on the driver's side either.

I still like Ninja look over the shoulder. I rather be a "rookie" than have those mirror on my mirror. ( I can't say this too loud since I still have both sides on )

You just have to get used to it... Would you rather look over your shoulder and smack some in front of you?

I always take a quick glance as well. Guess I'm a rookie too

Every single thing I have read and learned about defensive driving states that turning your head quickly to check the blind spot is a good thing

OP- sorry for the off topic discussion. I applaud your efforts in being a safer driver.

^ you're the rookie driver. As GGESQ said, all defensive driving classes teach you to look over your shoulder for a quick glance before changing lanes. The people I know rely on their blind spot mirrors are the ones who can't check over their shoulder w/o drifting into the lane they want to get into.

I've been driving for 8 years w/o an accident, and have always done an over the shoulder maneuver before changing lanes.
/end rant.

just make sure that the mirror does not cause the fun house funny shapes closer than they appear stuff..

my sister accidentally bought one of the broadway mirrors that kinda magnified a little and it's very disorienting.

for her TSX, i bought her a natural mirror and it doesn't give her headaches due to focusing and calculating distance in the mirror anymore

My wife has one of these in her Tacoma. Only thing I don't like is its so big I can't fold down the sunvisors without bumping it. Other than that I don't mind it. I don't really see a need for it, more of a personal preference thing. Stock mirror in my TL works fine but if you want a bigger one then go for it.

yah that would bug me also.. but they way are car is desinged you can get an even larger mirror and it really wont affect the sun visors because the sunvisors sit so far back..

I like the oem mirror's look. And if you have a modest amount of bass, the broadway mirrors pop off.....while driving.
