Just curious...as I have an 02 Type-S, and now I can't stop thinking about the 04. Any of you do this, and were you glad you did??
I'm worried about getting a good enough trade-in on my 02 so I don't go underwater.

probably not worth it unless you are getting the 6-speed. The new TL looks much nicer in my opinion but you will get raped on the trade in so I don't think its worth it right now. Hold off and let the bugs get fixed and see if there is a performance version of the TL in the next year or so.

I traded an 02 TL Type S for my '04, and I never looked back. I loved my type S, but the '04 was a huge upgrade in my opinion. Comfort, looks, handling, road noise, audio, navi, fit and finish...it's much nicer in every way.

I traded in a 2003 Type S. (Antracite). It was an 03, but was about 18 months old. Had 21000 miles on it.
I love the new 2004 TL styling and have no regrets. While the 03 Type S was a great car, I always felt the styling was a little plain.

I'm trading my 2003 TL-S that I purchased in April 2002 for a '04 6MT. It has 34,000 on it. Once I saw the 2004, it was over. I love my 2003, but damn.... the 2004 is sweet. Bonus. My wife didn't think I was nuts when I mentioned that I'd like to trade up.:o) She's all for it. The 2004 is so nice, it makes me wonder how they'll improve it for 2008, except the obvious AWD etc.
If you have the $$, I don't see how you can go wrong. I have had manuals all my life, and when I purchased the 2003 TL-S, I was disappointed it was auto only, I got used to it however, but still missed the manual, and then.... they come out with a 6-speed. OMG, what else could I want. This is perfect. I just wish the thing would get here!!!

I did and I'm loving avery minute of it. The typeS was a nice car but it never really ws what I wanted. I bought it because it was a sportier and plusher than my other choice, the Accord. In all truth, performance-wise the Type S and the 04 auto are close in engine, handling is better in the 04, although not radically better. The goodies on the 04 are much better overall. The manual on the other hand is a completely different level of performance, its much faster and handles much better plus it has all the other goodies we already discussed.

I traded my '02 NBP TL-S for an Anthracite 6 speed, navi '04. My old TL-S had 12,000 miles, was never driven in the rain, and I only got $21,300 trade for it. Tried to sell it privately, and got absolutely no calls...guess the interest rates for new cars has killed off the used car market. Anyway, the dealer gave me $2000 off MSRP for the '04, so that kind of made up for the crappy trade. I love the new car, and even though I loved the TL-S, the new car is so much nicer, and I love that 6speed tranny. I have no regrets.

I had an 03 NBP TL-S also, but I had a bad accident in it involving frame damage. I had it fixed, but ever since it was plagued with rattles and windshield leaks, and it wouldn't hold an alignment anymore. It was starting to drive me nuts. I shopped it around for trade but all I could get were wholesale offers. Then I took it to Carmax, who never bothered to take it inside and examine the paint or even put it up on a rack and look underneath. They offered several thousand more than anyone else, so I took it. I still took both a depreciation hit and a larger tax hit, but the 04 is so much nicer a car that I'm not crying about it. The 04 has better looks, better handling, much better interior, more amenities, nicer materials, just a better car all around, and the 6MT rocks. If I hadn't had the wreck, I'd still be driving my old TL-S. That was a fine car, but the 04 is a lot more than just a few updated cosmetics; this car is a very significant upgrade inside and out. No regrets.

I traded my 02 TL-S with 15,000 miles on it. I sold it privately for 23K, the dealer offered 21 and I probably could have gotten him up to 21,800. I went with a MT6 navi and don't regret it one bit. The Type S drove great but was pretty boring styling wise. The new one has great style and the stereo is a killer.
