preheat oven to 275, put lights in for 8 full minutes. careful that no parts of the lights are touching anything metal in the oven, including the rack. you need to put the light on something like a sil-pat mat (available at wal mart, target, etc) or wet cardboard, but I don't like cardboard, it makes your oven and house stink and it could potentially catch fire.

oh yeah and use silicone sealant around the seam when you put them back together. have some gloves and jeans on so you can sit down with the light in your lap to pull it apart. make sure you have all the screws and everything out before pulling them apart!

I thought it was 200 for 20 minutes and no preheating. 275 seems pretty high. At 200 you can smell plastic burning.

Thats what i do, 200 for 20 minutes no pre heating on a cookie sheet or something covered with foil. Then turn the oven off, finish the first light and then repeat the process with the second light later. Oh and sometimes elevations and different ovens can cause them to heat up more or less, so it might be a good idea to check the headlights to make sure there isnt any melting every 3-5 minutes or so.

This is a good point. I destroyed a headlight despite lowering the temp to 180 after 10 minutes. Half the clips melted off. Not a good experience. I decided to give up on whole headlight clearing thing.

heat gun is safe, I've done close to a dozen pairs of headlights now (all on different cars) and used 275, never with ill effects... 200 is probably safer but 20 minutes vs. 8 would concern me... I definitely would never do it without the sil pat tho, that makes life way easier

I prehated to 210, placed soaked cardboard on middle rack, baked lights for 8 minutes. I had to re bake up to 3 times for each light. 20 minutes is a long time to leave the lights in the oven!

Seriously. 275, 8 minutes, no need to re-bake.

wet cardboard = very humid environment
wet cardboard @ 200 degrees = stinky
cardboard in oven = potential fire
silicone mat (sil-pat) = no added humidity, no fire, no stinky.

everyone has diff temps they bake at but it really depends also on ur oven as well....i leave mine on 220 for 12 mins because i want to be able to handle it right when i take it out of the oven.

Some ovens get too hot in the preheat stages and have a potential to melt the lens. my friend did it when he was baking his 08 Cadi CTS lens.

make sure you put the headlight on a damp towel in the oven. Also it really helps to have a friend with you when you pull the headlights apart. One person pulls the two pieces apart while the other person uses a chopstick to catch and remove all of the hot, stringy adhesive to help keep it from falling into the headlight and ruining it
