Always Catching Up Rarely Ahead

BTW, "Luxury EXport for U.S." is a myth.

The carmakers retained marketing firms to develop words such as "Acura," "Infiniti" and "Lexus" to be used as upscale brand names because many consumers supposedly were not going to pay $30K+ for a Honda, Toyota or Nissan. "Acura" supposedly was derived from the word "accurate" (stylized caliper used as Acura's logo).
Acura stopped using names for cars because "Legend," the sedan product, became better known than "Acura," the car brand. Someone will explain why that's bad and that the brand should be better known than the product, I'm sure, but I'm not a fan of the alpha-numeric trend.

I also remember reading that, but I don't feel like taking the time to find it in writing. I think Honda just wanted to see how many people they could get to argue about it on the internet.

While you guys are at it go ahead and find out what EX, DX, CX, LX, CRV, MDX, SI, RDX, CR-V, NGV, EX-L, RT, RTX, RTS, RTL, SI-R and SE stand for. When I first met my wife she drove a CRV, and right on the back it said CRV-EX... For some reason that always made me laugh.

I always heard ACURA stood for Always Coming After Real Automobiles.

Yup, and to add to this.... I was in a dealship the year they made the change. What they told me correlates with what you have here. They also told me that originally the TL was going to be the SL for Sedan Luxury. Mercedes already has that moniker. To avoid confusion, they just bumped the first letter up one and it became the TL.
