Anyone got a 07-08 switchblade milled & cut & programmed for their 04-06 TL?
 

Did anyone get a 07-08 switchblade key for their 04-06 TL??

Reason I ask, I know & heard that it's possible, but I want to know if it's really true! [I need proof basically].To see if anyone out there has done it them self...

I plan to buy one soon <--[next coming payday] already milled from a Acura dealership. They told me it just needs to be cut and programmed. Or is there more then meets the eye with this?

What needs to be done exactly...?


If anyone has done this mod to their TL or know anyone please let me know.

I have one. It works flawlessly. I love the look and feel, but dont love the excess baggage when carrying it around with an aftermarket alarm system. Two large remotes = huge pain.

If you plan on keeping the car stock and dont plan to get an alarm, its a no brainer. Get the key! You'll love it!

oh yeah, if you do a search, you should be able to find the programming instructions listed in these forums. (getting the buttons to work with your car). The chip in the key is something the dealership might have to program for you (I destroyed an old key to put the old chip in my new key and avoided that part).

get it from heeltoe auto or make sure the dealer knows what they're doing when they mill the key. the metal key section has to be shaved down about one mm or so because the type-s switchblade keys are thicker than they 04-06 keys. heeltoe gets them custom milled and then you take the key to your dealer and have them cut the ridges on the sides of the key and program the immobilizer.

I got mine milled from HeelToe, cut for free at Home Depot, and programmed the buttons myself, and had the transponder programmed at a Honda dealer for $50.

I was thinking about getting one (cause it looked cool)....however, its WAY over priced IMHO and I think of better mods to spend the money on.

I have an 07 TL and that is my main concern with changing my alarm. Is it possible for me to get an 04-06 key to avoid the bulkiness of a huge key and viper remote?

^I don't know how possible that is! The 07-08 switchblade keys are cut on the inside of the key, different than the picture in post number 1.
Op-I have an '04 and ordered the milled key through Heeltoe, and had the dealership cut/program the key. Works flawlessly! I don't think the dealer can order the key milled to fit an 04-06, just the 07-08 where the key is cut out of the middle of the switchblade. Hope this helps.

So whats the all said and done totals of this. They want $119 for the key, $30 to mill it, shipping, plus $50 to get the stealership to cut and immobilize it. Lots of other mods to do before this for me.

I recently placed an order to get one from Heel Toe. What I did was let them mill it for me, but since I only have one key for my car, I went to A1 locksmith and they made a 4 dollar copy (no immobolizer) and I sent that to him today. If you wanna do what I did, just makes sure the key can lock/unlock the doors manually. That is how you know it is the right fit. I like the fact that Heel Toe give insurance. The dealer or most locksmiths won't since you are taking the key to them and simply making them do it.

This is exactly why mrheeltoe is in business. Most dealers are greedy pigs on this and other mods.

A lot of us (100+) got this done on a kindof group buy years ago. I think it was less than $125 total w/o using the dealer and prior to mrheeltoe. Mine is still working fine. FWIW, the new and old keys are about the same size. The old key also has a seperate remote which you know.

Was the chip in the key, once you got it out, just a plug-n-play into the switchblade key? How hard was it to do? I'm trying to save some money and sending it to heeltoe looks like it will cost $99 just to get the chip programmed and more to get it cut/milled. I probably will have to go this route, but was hoping to avoid it.

Agreed, some dealers are complete ripoffs while others are pretty nice! One dealership would have keys for 55 dollars on ebay every so often! I bought my in bulk for around 95 dollars or so a piece for both mem 1 and mem 2 when I did the milling.

FLBUSA was the first to mill them back in 07/08. Then a while after he stopped I lost a key and went on a quest to replace it and found a shop that would let me do the work at a decent price. After that I stopped and Mr. Heeltoe's been selling them and he does a great job with them!
