any typical 1st year problems with the 04 TL?

First of all I am really impressed at how active this forum is! Looks like I'm not the only one who loves these TLs!

I am looking to buy a used TL, probably either 04 or 05. I hear people say to avoid the first year of a generation since they often have problems. Is this true of the TLs?

Scroll down a bit. There is a whole section that covers this.

But no REAL issues with the car. Rattles? you betcha. Also a third gear tranny issue for 6MT.

I had an 04 and loved it. I traded it in for an 08 when the lease ran out. The only issues I encountered (besides a few rattles here and there) were an HFL module that needed replacing and the "passenger airbag outline on the dashboard" problem. Other than that, it was a great car.

I have a 04 TL A-Spec and the only major problem I have is the cracked dash. This is not a problem every 04 have but you should inspect this. The most common places where it happens is around the passenger side airbag, front of the center speaker and on top of the clusters. Other that that it is a great car.

Wow, this thread is all new people. Great to see it. Welcome to AZ! You'll find that the TL in any year is a great ride. Of course they did make some updates and improvements in each model year. The 05 TL did have a few improvements such as the better stitching in the seating. I'm sure there are a few others items as well.

I have yet to have any major problems with my 04 5AT TL. I had the dash replaced because of crazy ass cracking. I made a thread about that situation and it's posted in the "Problems and Fixes" section.

Besides that, the car is running great! I regret not getting a TL with navi. I love my car even though it doesn't have it, but I just like having all of the little toys haha

A lot of people say that, but it hasn't been my experience and I think it's not true anymore these days. It used to be true back in the day before everythign was designed with computers.
