Any reason not to buy 2004 TL
I have been reading this excellent forum regarding the 2004 TL. I am seriously thinking about purchasing the TL and I am curious if anyone has a major reason not to do this. I have read all of the messages about the glove box, tires, and memory seats but these seem like they are getting fixed. Are there any major flaws that people have found in the car?
I have looked at the 2004 BMW 5 series and determined that there is no comparision with the TL by the time you are charged extra for all of the additional basic add ons that people generally purchase.
I am in the Dallas area and have been offered $1,500 off the non nav version and only $500 off the car with nav. Anyone know if this is reasonable.

You should be able to get $2k off MSRP for a non-NAV car. Both dealerships in Austin will give you this deal.
I have S/N 315XX, Feb. build, and I have had no problems w/ 600 miles on the car.

While I think the 5-Series is a better driving car, I don't think it's $20,000 better. If you're looking for a great looking, reliable cruiser you'll be hard pressed finding more value in a car than the TL.
That said I don't have Navi 'cause between the shortage and the discounts on non-Navi it meant an extra $3000 and not getting my color choice. Now after hearing all the cool features you get with navi, 8" screen, dynamic solar sensing climate control and voice control; I'm regretting it.
If it's in your budget you should get navi...this coming from someone regretting not having Navi.

It's not free? That's the only reason I can think of not to get it.
Although... If I continue to find more things wrong with it's build quality, my answer may change. I left the domestic market for the import market years ago based on quality and value. This first week is definitely putting that theory to the test.

The S40 is decent competition for a TSX, especially the Turbo 5.
As for any downside with the TL, I'd only say there are lighter, crisper handling cars, and RWD or AWD cars. That's about it.

The only thing that I can think of after having driven mine for 500 miles is the torque steer. And this is only a (mild) problem(?...some actually like it) on twisting roads where I am accelerating strongly. Pretty hard to one-hand the wheel, at least until I know the car better. On the open highway, it's not a problem. It just takes a bit more concentration than if you are driving RWD. But I think, with all things considered, that this is still a better deal than a bimmer, and a better all-around car than the G35 (better interior, FWD is better in snow) so I am glad that I made the choice I did. Other than that, I couldn't be happier--there is fantastic power, the car is very quiet inside, and driving the 6MT is like slicing a warm knife through butter--I drove my 5MT Accord for 10 years and couldn't drive it as smoothly as I drive my TL. Did I mention the XM, which absolutely rocks...?

The only thing I don't like about my 04 TL is that I don't have a bluetooth phone to use with it. But that's the phone companies fault for not putting out a nice phone that I like. Other than that I have no regrets. Well maybe that I got the 5AT instead of the 6MT, but I don't regret it when I stuck in traffic.
BTW, I also recommend getting the Navi. I don't know how I could ever buy a car without one ever since we bought our MDX with Navi. The TL's Navi is even better. The best option you could ever get on a car.
