soooo i might get roasted for this but ill put my 2 cents in: - i got to drive the v6/awd TLX while i was in seattle for new years and well i liked it.. just not enough to let go of my TypeS tho, the 3G styling is just plain simple and effective IMO, im lucky enough to have a manual so not having that option for the tlx was a disappointment, auto windows for my back seat passengers is the last thing on my mind, i dont care about a push start button either or ventilated seats, but then again thats just me. The TLX is a nice upgrade from the M1 Abrams tank the 4G reminded me of but its nowhere near what the 3G is.. them jewel headlights sure make look at it twice but whenever i see a 3G i downright break my neck starring at one... what i ended up telling my self after nearly an hr of driving it: its nice, just not enough for a $40+k tag and to let go of my old-still-good-looking-MANUAL TypeS..

There is exactly one memorable thing about the 3G today: the styling. Other than that, I bet you'd be hard pressed to find a single improvement over the newer models. What about the highly stylish cracked dashboards and failed transmissions?
By the way, the post MMC 4G SH-AWD looks damn good (but not as good as the post MMC 3G). With the smaller rims, not so much. Wait, I forgot that styling is purely subjective!!!

But to say the 3G had only appearance going for it is not fair or accurate. Great interior, awesome seats, very good performance, wide availability of a six speed manual, great stock rims, great sound system. It is the best TL to date when you take into account the whole package.

Three Wheelin'
TLX has a MacPherson strut design, which is lower cost to produce but at the cost of lower handling performance compared to a double wishbone design.
No Brembo caliper brake option / models, or manual transmission.
The type s V6 engine output is virtually the same as the TLX V6 even though the TLX's engine has updated technology.
If Acura ever releases a sport version of the TLX, that might shut us up. Until then, 3G >> TLX.

I test drove one.
it was very nice.
very comfortable
interior was Boss!(better than my aging 3G.)
exterior is understated(which can be a good thing or bad)
suspension was nice(tried FWD)
want to try SHAWD around a cloverleaf.
I am not in the market to buy a new car.
so, the TLX did not interest me.
however; if I were looking for a new entry level lux car; it could be a great contender.

I don't know...the more I see it, the less I feel I'm likely to get one (plus, reading about the tranny issues makes me shy away at this point). I still am a fan of my 3G and don't plan to sell any time soon, but if I had to upgrade, I might actually get something completely different like a new Genesis.

If I went into the ER in terrible pain, and realized the doc seeing me had a TLX, I'd request another doc.

Their poor decision making to pick a car might relate to poor decision making when saving a life..

I said earlier...in the thread...test drove several 4G TLs and I was very uninspired by the look and driving feel of the car, so I bought a 335i. Except for the RDX or MDX I will not consider buying another Acura.

I hated the dual screen approach as well. I do like the looks of the car though. It looked pretty sweet in Silver. To me though, it seemed more like a successor to the TSX than the TL.

They rate the 2013/14/15 design Accord to be a superior value.

The 9th gen accord is a big step up from that ugly 8th gen accord, espcially the touring model they got all the bell and whistle. However on the TLX isn't the case, I felt that if anyone got 3rd TL or 4g TL with Tech package then the 4banger TLX IS a step down. TLX with V6 SHAWD is just a prettier looking 4g advance package however the 4g TL give you more power and ability to choose MT, so in my book TLX isn't worth the upgrade.

I think the Honda Accord Sport is more compelling than the TLX- if only it offered a sunroof.
The TLX is quiet but I would have troubles with the electronic parking brake, push-button shifter, and exposed cupholders. The 3G seems to have more refined storage areas where the TLX seems to cut corners- only exception is the Sunglass storage that TLX offers.

Hopefully Acura will come out with a 5th Generation Type S. I was hoping Acura would come out with something exciting enough for my '08 Type S replacement when the time comes. But in looking at the TLX in person, it is very boring. Looks like Acura is trying to compete with Buick and trying to get older folks who want a soft and quiet ride rather than anything exciting. I'm an old fart and this car does not appeal to me. I actually like the looks of the Accord better. Looks like I will be hanging on to my '08 for a while or switching to a different brand.

I've seen a TLX in grey with the underspoiler package and I liked it from exterior appearance only. The autos are boring and shift too often and without a MT option I will never consider one. My current Acura sedan will be around for a very long time. I'm not one to trade my cars; I buy rare and awesome and stick with them.
