Another switchblade key question (sorry)

So I've done a lot of searching and seen that people are very happy with their heeltoe switchblade keys but I was just wondering if I could find someone who had found a cheaper alternative first hand. I've read through the process,

Have the key milled, have the key cut, have the immobilizer programmed, have the key programmed. I would probably have it cut and programmed on my own from what I understand it can be done with some locksmiths. I'm in the NYC area if anyone has done this and can recommend someone.

The reason I ask is because I stumbled upon this on eBay which is $30 vs heeltoe s $120 so I'm wondering what the diff is when they look exactly the same. Thanks for any help

i think the majority of the cost goes to milling the switchblade key down to specified thickness. The blanks on the switchblades are much thicker and can't be cut the way the older keys are.

I'll be hacking it up.

Yeah but I don't think those are milled. Which is the hardest part of the equation from what people have been saying.

I'd love to give that a shot but I don't have the tools to cut out the blank and put in mine. Wish someone on here was doing that. I'd pay $100 to turn my old key into a switchblade.

I bought two keys cut and milled for two different 04 TL's from that seller on eBay. Didn't have any problems.

Back then he was charging 15$ to transfer the "chip" from my key to the switchblade. So I chose to send him my valet key and he removed the chip and installed it for me; also he copied the cut so when I got the key it was plug and play. Started my car and I just programmed the fob (DIY key turning trick). It cost me under 150$ in the end which was cheaper than Heeltoe or anyone else I've seen. Didn't even have to pay programming fees at the dealer.

Just get the heeltoe milled key. Call all your local locksmiths and find out who will cut and program the transponder the cheapest. I had a local locksmith cut and program my Accord style key for $20. Or, what I did was cut the transponder out of my old key and put it in the switchblade key, and went to Lowes and since it was all torn apart the guy cut it for free.

the first ebay key wont work the key itself portion is too thick you can either get one like heeltoe or the second ebay option or mod it yourself as seen in a local thread where u basically take ur valet key and open it up take the chip out and the key portikn and just take off the key portion of the switchbpade key and jb wepd and all the other stuff and your good to go its a little cheaper but more work

There is only 3 Aura dealers within a 60 miles radius of me, I called for a quote to all 3 of them because I was needing a second key.

These are the program fee's I was quoted:

Dealer 1: $96
Dealer 2: $140
Dealer 3: $135

What the hell This is ridiculous

Pretty much all of them told me it takes an hour to do the programming and that is what they charge per hour

I know I can do the keyless entree programming myself if needed ... but are locksmiths able to do the immobilizer programming? Because I had not tried to call a locksmith yet

Or does anyone have any advice for me on how I should go about getting my key programmed?

Pretty much all locksmiths can program transponders now. You just need to make sure you bring all your keys when they program the new key.
