Hello Everyone,
Does anyone know when AmsOil is going to release a version of the
"AmsOil Absolute Efficiency Air Filter" that fits the 3rd Generation ('04)
TL? I'm not going to use a K&N this time around.
Thank you,
TL-Rocket

Not sure on the filter release date, but I suggest you search a bit a the KN filter, some report no MPG gains, and one reported an MPG loss
. Search before you spend your money, just a tip.

Any word on the dry Amsoil air filter? No worries about keeping it oiled, as it's constructed to use dry particles to filter (similar to AEM dryflow).
I searched Amsoil's website, but it gives a WIX part number (49224)

If a filter is oiled, it has a greater tendency to wick oil into the intake. We all know there's plenty of oil in the crankcase from your PCV and EGR systems getting past the throttle body. I, for one, don't want to add to that mess. Dryflow filters are the way to go, imho.

The stock TL engine air filter for the '04 and '05 models (the only models for which I have personal knowledge) is both an oil-wetted and a dry element filter. It is a bi-level unit with the oil-wetted portion on the side facing the incoming air and the dry portion on the side facing the throttle body.
As for oil-wetted filters being problematic to the intake systems, their biggest "enemies" are MAFs which the TL does not have. Next in line is the butterfly valve (throttle plate) in the throttle body. The incoming oil particles combine with solid debris and adhere to the "steps" on which the throttle valve seats when closed. This can lead to sticking and slight interference to intake flow.
Dry element filters are better in these respects as they impart no residue of their own. Perhaps the best of the lot is the Apexi Power Intake filter. Very expensive but also very good. And they are simple to clean - no water or oil is used.
