Am I paying too much?

Am I paying too much?
I just got B1 service done today at an Acura dealership for around $190 thats a little steep for an oil change and checking for tires and stuff. I need some advice on getting it done for less should I go to a local oil change place instead of an Acura dealership?

HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
$190???????
ok before I comment I will ask what exactly you had done...
was this one of them things where they charge you $190 to basically change your oil and try to "upsell"? If it was they saw you coming!

I never go to the dealer for service. You need ask family & freinds to refer you to a good garage and have the work done by that garage exclusively.
You do not want to go to those in & out oil change places either because they use crap oil and also do questionable work.
I got the oil changed on my wife's new 2010 Acura TL and it cost me $30. All is well. I have been going to the same garage for over ten years.

Yes you overpaid.
An oil change is 10 minutes worth of work and $30 worth of materials (more if you use synthetic but not $190).
I use Jiffy Lube. It may not be the most confidence inspiring place and I've heard plenty of horror stories but I watch them work on the car, double check the oil cap and oil, and they vacuum, top off my fluids and give me a free car wash coupon for $45.
If you don't trust a quicky place ask some friends where they take their cars and use their mechanics. $190 is straight out robbery, even if they claim to have done more.
Just don't fall for all their usual tricks of "oh your air cleaner has a particle of dust on it, it should be replaced every 3000 miles".

It's alright, a lot of members make that mistake in the beginning. From now on, do the oil changes yourself. There are many threads on here which show what needs to be done at certair intervals, like 50,000/75,000/100,000 miles.

You got raped, big time.
Get a set of ramps and start changing the oil yourself. Most auto parts places run specials where you can get 5 quarts of Mobil 1, and a Mobil 1 oil filter, for $29.99. You can get the tires rotated for $20 or less typically at most garages.

I never owned a luxury car before so I was thinking that the only place that can do work on the car is the dealership itself.

If you get that message again or any other message for maintenance I would just look up what is recommended (pertaining to the message), most things like checking fluids, rotating tires, changing oil can be done by yourself or by a local trusted mechanic. If you do need ONLY your oil changed its ok to go to Acura just let them know you ONLY want your oil changed, thats what i do. Most of the time when the techs see you have a modded car they wont try to "upsell" you.

lol its ok no big deal, it happens, you have to remember tho thats how the dealers make money.

You could try a local Honda dealership (thats what I do, the nearest Acura ds is an hour away) if you really want some dealership action...they might run a little cheaper? they can't do warranty work, however

Maybe they add some extra stuff like new windshield wipers or something else

On a related note: I also bought my tires at my dealership. They price matched tire rack and now I get free rotations for the life of the tires. So, synthetic oil change and tire rotation is $45.
On another related note: lifetime alignment at firestone is $150...so synthetic oil change, tire rotation, and alignment for $45; can anyone beat that (doesn't count if you do the work yourself!!)?

The only reason that I used Acura service is because my extended warranty came through them - if the car grenades sometime between now & next August, they can't say that it was improperly maintained!

All I got for my $190 was plenty of OK machine made cappucino, synthetic oil & them trying to sell me some brake service.... To their credit, they said everything but my front pads were good. I was actually astounded that they didn't feel the need to turn or sell me new front rotors.... I did get a free half-assed car wash, however & all of them calling me sir!

DIY!!
ive been draining & filling w/a quart of lucas & the rest w/royal purple. you can get a really good deal sometimes at pep boys for royal purple which will include the oil filter. i think it was ~$50-60 for the oil, filter, and drain pan.

Wow they definitely over charged you.
I got a B1 service done about 3 months ago and paid a little bit over $80. This was to change the oil/oil filter, tire rotation/balance, and a multi-point inspection.

I can semi-understand about the luxury car and going to the dealership thing... Had a beemer and oil changes HAD to be done at the dealership or it voided the warranty. WTF right?
