Question All Weather Mats-Carpet Mats???Do you keep both

When I purchased my 2008 TL I got negotiated all weather mats for the car. They put them in the car right over the carpet ones, and the carpet ones have been underneath ever since.

Would it be a better idea to take the carpet ones out completely and keep them in the trunk or the house or something??? Seems like they will just risk getting dirty under there and aren't adding any benefit.

Anyone keep their carpet mats in with the all-season mats, or did you take the carpet ones out???

The carpet ones should be removed when putting in the all-weather mats. You sure they put the mats over the carpet mats, and not just the carpet floor? Do the hook tabs show through the all weather mat grommets?

Yup, the carpets are definitely under the winter mats because I took them all out once to clean the interior really good and I put them all back in. The carpets are popped through the grommets. I am going to remove the carpets before the winter hits and only keep the all-weather.

Anyone out there actually keep the carpets under? Seems pointless.

Only one set in at a time please

All it will take is one time getting the extra "top" mat stuck behind a clutch or break pedal and you will realize how exceedingly bad an idea it is to have 2 sets of mats in the car at once. Hooking the mat in keeps it from creeping. To the doubters, just because it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean it wont. I learned the scary way with a previous car. All ended well but I never put two in at once again.

i put the all weather over my carpet. I don't see the point of removing the carpet ones because then you have to store them somewhere. Plus if you remove the carpet mats the grommets poke at the all weather mats. I guess you can do whatever, but I just don't see the point of removing them.

I also want to say how much I love the all weather mats. They look really good with my black interior! And the carpeting underneath is absolutely pristine. I cannot imagine why everyone doesn't have these (the Acura ones) in their TL? Best investment ever. Plus the dealer threw these and wheel locks in for this car.

The carpet mats + the all weather mats raise the effective floor a little bit. As has been said, it takes only one time for your brake/gas pedal to catch on to cause a big problem. The AW mats I bought have grommets for the tabs to go through - maybe yours weren't from Acura?

I only have the all-weather mats in there. The carpet mats would get trashed with all of the salt exposure during the winter months.

Agreed that the All-Weather mats are a must have. Mine also look sweet with the black interior.

I'm not sure if mine have a grommet hole, will have to look tomorrow. They are genuine Acura ones for sure.

After I negotiated price as low as they would possibly go (Including any dealer in about a 100+ mile radius), I told them if they throw in the all-weather mats and wheel locks they had a deal. It worked

Another great investment? The Trunk Liner!!! I got it myself off of eBay and it is great. I never worry about my trunk rug getting dirty, wet, stained, or screwed up somehow. The liner is key!

I'm confused by your post. My TL did not come with the SHAG carpet mats so this really isn't a problem. You guys are a bunch of drama queens.

Actually my drivers side mat does grommet holes in it--I never notice them but looked last night due to this thread.

I took my carpet mats out when putting in the AW ones. Might as well keep one set of mats in good condition while you beat on the other one

If you live in snow country and leave the carpet mats under the rubber ones you risk trapping "more" moisture from melted snow etc than without. Along with crud that will stain them . Then come spring you pull the rubber ones and face stained carpet ones.

The carpet mats will take on stains the carpet itself won't and are harder to bring up. I see this all the time.

Mine are in a green garbage bag in the shop.

if you go for weathertech rather than OEM, I agree. Otherwise I think the OEM rubber mats look way better than carpet if you have a black interior.

I agree with ARX-01b, the AW ones seems to just take away a little of the luxury the car has. Maybe it's just b/c I have a connection at the dealership but when I found out I could get the AW mats for the same price as the carpet ones I decided to keep the carpet ones in. When they get too bad looking I will just replace them. I live in ATL though...if I had to deal with snow I would for sure have the AW mats.

Quick Question since we are on mats:

Will 04-06 TL mats work in an 08 TL?

I'm considering getting a used set off of eBay for cheap.

i thought people got the all-weather ones to save the carpet mats not to just cover them up. if i left my carpet mats in they would totally get ruined due to the salt/rain/snow crap, but also from the fact that the all-weather mats will rub the pretty "TL" embroidery off the pretty carpet ones. but i love the carpet, i just want to keep them clean, so i keep them in the basement till i need them...maybe for prom.

removing the carpet mats FTMFW!!!!!

I am glad that I have the all weather ones. Over the weekend I spilled some coffee on the mat by accident. A whole lot easier to clean up with the AW ones.

I also have the AW mats and they are great for when you go to the beach. Sand and all. My carpet mats are in my attic. The trunk tray is a must have as well.

Carpet mats out, all season mats always in.

Protects from dirty shoes and dog pee.

No need for both, just use the AW mats. The original carpet mats are in the cardboard box that was used to ship the AW mats, stored in my garage.

Its of no use if you have AW matts and Carpet matts together, for me AW matts are easy to clean plus they go good with black interior.

I have the AW mats and love them, and they definitely look great with the black interior...My carpet mats are in a sealed bag in the attic...and when I sell the car in a few years, the new owner can have the AW and some very new carpet floormats

You know, after reading this thread, I remembered seeing on Acurazine that the carpeted floormats are considered "replacable items" by the dealership-if they wear out. So I asked my dealership about it and they said "Yes", the floormats can be replaced under warranty. Man, was I surprised.

under warranty? wouldn't the wear be considered normal and not covered? i'm confused.

you could obviously of course just buy new ones from the dealer. I like the soft feel of carpet so i figure if they just get too dirty that cleaning won't work, i'd get new ones.

Guru,

I was surprised too, but hey-I'm not one to argue with the dealership if I need new floormats.

Dear Steven,

We will replace your floormats under warranty! With that kind of service you should do everything here at the dealer!

Thanks for listening to anything we say,
Dealer

ps - you will never, ever get new floormats under warranty, you poor, poor sap. But thanks for the money from our overcharged services!

If the dealer is willing to replace them under warranty, go for it.
