air filter question? please respond

hello. does anyone know how long you have to wait to drive after re-oiling the air filter. and does anyone know if its normal to smell a little gas or some kind of chemical when starting up the car for the first time of the day.

I usually let the filter stand for 20 minutes or so, then wipe of any excess, then reinstall. Then you are fine to drive.

If you are talking about the factory filter, it doesn't get oiled. I'm sure you already know that, but just pointing it out just in case.

Factory Filters are to be replaced only, never reoiled. The K and N ones are the only ones that should be reoiled, and many screw it up and end up putting on too much oil and having the inside of the intact tract and the TB and other components soaked in oil. Change the filter every 30K, and if in dusty conditions every 15K.

if its a K&N- that little spray can of oil does 5 filters
The directions say how much to use on what size filter
Its not as bad in the TL if a little extra- we dont have a wire in the TB that gets screwed up by that like many cars

example: neighbor borrowed my new K&N refill kit for dodge truck-
used the entire can of oil!!
then had problems with his computor, plugs, O2 sensors, cat, etc
I didnt know he used the entire can until I grabbed it to do mine months later
He was soaking down down the intake and ruined a few grand in parts - from not following instructions
Be careful- follow directions from maker

Once its been reoiled- as said above- wipe off excess from seal ring, there should not be any dripping if done right- just a light red tint to the material

I wanna say the AEM uses a dry filter, so no oil is needed. You should be able to clean them with soap and water.
