Air Filter Install

I installed a K&N filter today in my 2005 TL today. I installed it as indicated by the drawing in red. It seemed to make more sense because the portion sticking out was better able to sit into in the airbox base. Did I install it correctly or did I put it in backwards? There was no other indication on the filter or instructions as to which way it should go. Thanks.

Craig

the pic is upside down- confused me-
the deeper part goes down into the airbox- and the holes line up the the screws that hold the cover on- should only go in1 way

yeah, i was originally going to install it the other way (which is why the pic is upside down). i just slid it in and put the filter cover back on. i didn't line anything up to the screws. i tried to make sure there was a good seal, but i'm not sure if i did it right.

as long as it sat flat on the airbox lower and the cover fit on, and the screws line up--all you have to do is gently tighten the screws in an X pattern- so it spreads the clamping force- then you go back and do a final tighten on them
Think changing flat tire-- and how you snug the lugs- then tighten one on one side- then across from it
Except on the airbox its just a diagonal X pattern as you tighten them- not superhuman tight- just screwdriver tight
