Advice about a high milage 2004 TL for sale
This weekend I test drove a 2004 TL that has 88,500 miles on it. The car is being sold by the original owners and they said it was still under a transferable factory warranty. The car had a small ding behind the drivers rear door and the wheelwell and another on the rear bumper. The car had not been detailed, but was in very good condition inside and out, but will need new tires. On my test drive the car felt tight and solid, not like an abused car.
The couple selling live 30 miles out of town so they said that's why the car has high mainly highway miles. Here's the kicker it's priced below trade in value right now and they said they are open to lower offers.
I want it but I thought I'd check with the experts!

Thats a good price. I have an '04 with ~67k miles on it and I think that it is still like new in ride and handling.
Ask them for all the paperwork on the car such as maintenance, oil changes, etc. to see that they maintained the vehicle. I wouldn't worry about the mileage so much at that price since they are mostly highway. Maybe check with the local dealership and see if they can give you any records on the car.
Extended warranty is only good for another 12k so thats a short amount of time before its not covered. I would not factor that in so much as a big value add, other than a peace of mind for 12k miles.
Dings can be fixed but i would get an estimate on the work and lower your price to fix them.
Good luck on your purchase!

Welcome to Acurazine!
1) Get a Carfax report on the car to check for major accidents, and 2) check to see if sellers have clear title to transfer (either they have the title dpcument/"pink slip," or check with the state motor vehicle/dept of transportation).
