AcuraCare extended warranty - special offer for March!

I just bought my Extended Warranty for my 2004 TL via the AcuraCare website www.curryacuracare.com. They are offering $75 off of what are one of the lowest prices for the month of March. I am not affiliated with them in any way, but this does appear to be one of the better deals I have seen for the warranty - $1140 for 7/100K, $0 deductible.

Click on the Pricing link and it will ask for your name and an e-mail address. Fill those in and submit, and you will get an email with a special promotional code. You can use this to get the $75 discount.

My fault, corrected URL

http://www.curryacuracare.com/#

Apparently the "#" sign is critical...

Sorry!

Unless I miss my guess, they were $20 cheaper ($1120) a month or two ago. I think they raised their pricing ...

Speaking of warranties, did anyone ever determine if the AcuraCare warranty covered the navigation system? I remember there were some questions about that a while ago. Anybody find out for sure?

My dealer told me that the Acura Care Extended Warranty covers all factory installed options and that includes the Navigation as well. It is also mentioned the extended warranty booklte that I received from Acura.

Acura Care is $1120 at all dealers...if they are charging you more they are scamming you. Navi is covered.

FWIW, GEICO offers a 7yr/100K mechanical breakdown warranty for $36/6 months with $250 deductible. I could be wrong, but 7x72 plus a couple of repairs is still cheaper than $1100....

I have until 1yr/11K to buy it.

Does that cover the Nav system, audio system and EVERYTHING else? Most aftermarket warranties are pretty selective about what they cover. At least Geico will probably be around to pay off claims, unlike many of the others that have gone out of business.

1. How do you know GEICO is going to still offer this policy at this premium 5-7 years from now?

2. How do you know you will still be insured with GEICO 5-7 years from now?

3. Have you viewed the complete details of coverage?

Does GEICO let you go to any Acura dealership for repairs?

Does GEICO require you to get authorization from them before any repairs are performed?

You don't -- which is why he posted it with a "FWIW" -- for what it's worth.

My dealer quoted me $3,000 for the extended warranty on the night of the purchase. I called again a month after purchase and complained and they quoted me $2,400. I did mention this site and told them about some posts getting the warranty for as low as $980 which they said it wasn't true. I finally did get my warranty on line for $2400. I called my dealer after and they are still in state of denial.

In case you're wondering, no they didn't rip me off on the purchase of my TL since I was readly able to cross shop with other Acura dealers in LA. Just dissapointed that they couldn't get their warranty straight.

Dulnev,

I keep $1120. At 6% interest, I can pay for the albeit dubious geico policy (since I only have vague details at this point) essentially for free for the next 4-7 years. I can also cancel it. With the Acura warranty - it's money foregone upfront regardless of whether or not you own the car in 4-5 years.

I don't necessarily believe in extended warranties; Lore picked up on the subtlty in my post - thx! The point was that there are ways to get some extra peace of mind for much less.

Well, I don't believe in extended warranties at all and GEICO's insurance makes the least sense of all to me. That is unless there are built-in gurantees that the premium will not go up and that you can keep this coverage, if you decide to cancel the auto policy. Otherwise, it's pretty much money down the drain!

Yes, you can cancel it at any time, but wouldn't that be extremelly stupid, given that you'd pay all this money while your car is still under warranty and get nothing for it? I'm sure that insuring a 4-5 year old car would be a lot more than $72 a year.

By the way, 6% interest rates have not been around for several years. You'd be lucky to get 4% on a 5-year CD these days.

Does the Geico policy have you start paying the $36/month NOW while the car is still under the 4 year factory warranty? I would make sure that the rate and terms of contract can not change down the road.

Personally I do not like the extended warranties. Best bet is to use the 4 year factory then find a mechanic who you trust to look after your car, advise, and not charge too much. My .02

Its 36/6 months or 72 per annum. Yes, the policy must be invoked before 1 yr or 11K miles. I don't have any more details, but most all of the q's asked are good ones.

So a 7 year policy theoretically costs $504 assuming the annual rate is locked. Changing insurance companies frequently is, as I understand it, a bad idea also. Progressive hasn't been able to beat or find me a better plicy than GEICO yet.

At the moment, I will not be purchasing the extended warranty.

I guess this would be kind of off topic, but I thought I'd weigh in this. I've changed my insurance carriers typically every 1-2 years in the last 10 years and have experienced no negative consequences. In fact, I can't imagine why it would be bad to change policies frequently.

All that the new insurance company knows or cares about is that you've been continuously insured for the last several years, not by which or how many companies. Now, I have been with the same carrier now for almost three years (Liberty Mutual), but that's because I got two speeding tickets in the last two years and Liberty doesn't know (or care) about them and continues to lower my premium every year. BUT, if I didn't have thouse tickets, I would've switched already, because there are now couple carriers in my market that offer lower rates.

If you only check with couple carriers, you may miss tremendous savings. I've always found GEICO to be among the most expensive carriers for me, together with Allstate and State Farm. I was with Progressive in my previous state, but their rates in Virginia are TERRIBLE! If you are truly interested in saving money on insurance, you'd get 5-10 quotes at a time. Most can be obtained on-line in a matter of minutes.
