Acura windshields, make the cabin quieter?

Acura windshields, make the cabin quieter?
I bought my TL from Acura not knowing there was a chip that was filled in the windshield... Dont ask me how I missed it. Anyway I recently got another chip during a road trip.. Now my plan is to let this chip grow into a dangerous crack so my insurance will replace it.
When this happens, I want to bring it to Acura because all of my windows are stamped with a code, and the Acura label.
I also remember reading that the windshield is made thicker than one you would find on a Toyota Tercel, and Acuras windshield makes the car quieter.
Has anyone replaced their windshield for a generic one and noticed that the car ride is louder?

the TL does come with an Acoustic glass.
yes, if you replace the glass with a generic one, you will get wind noise. as there are couple of threads outlining this.
MAKE sure you get factory replacement.
some did not get the ACURA stamped glass but instead Honda, i think.
as long as you go with an OEM glass it will be fine.

Yes, I have a Honda stamped glass. Apparently they changed that on 07-08, I think they say Acura.

So I would assume the dealer would replace it with another Acura and not a Honda stamped glass.
Im going to give my insurance a call and make sure... I have a feeling they won’t want to go to Acura.. Even though I pay them heaps of money for insurance every year.

Maybe you could get them to pay what a replacement would cost and then cover the rest by yourself? If you really wanted OEM. Just a thought.

Yeah my 07 says Acura on every piece of glass except the mirrors.

Honda stamped glass is the same as the Acura stamped glass.
I remember the threads, saying that it was a different STAMP but still the factory acoustic glass.
thats all that matters.
if its the factory acoustic glass.
the STAMPS dont matter.

The windshield is also a structural part of a unibody car. It's not something to try and save a few bucks on, and def make sure whoever does the work has the right experience and credentials.

my windshield was replaced with the AP tech OEM glass on my car without the Honda badge (as i knew my insurnace would not pay for factory glass on a 7 yr old car, so i insisted on this specific piece of glass knowing it is the same as the factory glass-see thread above). the 07-08's have an Acura badge. it is the EXACT same glass as the factory glass specs and all just without the honda/acura badge. factory OEM glass is fairly $$$$ (about 800 or so dollars). the aftermarket OEM glass is about half the price. NEVER ever opt for OE glass (really cheap...ie safelite branded glass). it is usually reverse engineered and the quality is awful.
so to recap types of glass:
factory OEM-with acura/honda badge
aftermarket OEM-same as factory but without the acura honda badge and half the price (for the 3G TL-AP tech)
other aftermarket OEM spec'd glass-theoretically meets factory specs and has acoustic layering like the OEM glass (ie pilkington, ppg)
OEE-reverse engineered crap glass (ie safelite brand)

The glass etching is used mostly as an anti-theft thing. My windshield ended up getting chipped during the national meet this past June and I had to get it replaced after the crack started spreading. I ended up with the AP Tech glass per this thread https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=817643 and saved a lot of $$$.

I think someone in this forum had his windshield replace from a third part and as long as it made by AP then you should be fine.

Wait a minute.
So you're going to let the crack get bigger just to get a newer one for no apparent reason while basically cheating your insurance company? Then the logic is too waste your deductible and spend $250-1000 just to get a new windshield to feel better instead of paying nothing for the repair? Even though your windshield is 'almost new' just with a small crack/chip in it... what?

This is all great info guys, thanks for the help.
I have two chips on my windshield the first one I missed because it is right behind the rear view mirror, my front passenger can see it clearly. Now it looks like a small spyder (with extra legs) at the moment. The second one is right in front of the drivers seat..
To get a crack "repaired" means it wont spread but it will not be invisible..I would not want my 'almost new' cars windshield to look beat up, and a third chip would make it look ridiculous. Id rather a new windshield with 1 chip instead of the same old with 3, or 4 chips filled in.
You are right the deductible is a kick in the teeth but this is all just on big kick in the teeth for me anyway.
