whats up guys. I'm new to these forums. I joined because im looking for more info on the 3rd gen tl, specifically 06-08. I've had an 06 350z, 08 civic si, and i currently have an 07 cobalt ss turbo ~350whp on pump gas. but im tired of all the problems that come with modding a car so i just want something nice and reliable. I love the looks of the tl and the interior too. i know its not quick but ill be able to deal with it. apart from the timing belt being replaced yet, what other things should i look into when buying the car. also, what are the major differences from those years, and what gas mileage are you guys getting? i cant seem to get a concrete answer for the gas mileage question. ill post some pics of my previous cars if anyone is interested.

Welcome Ronny...I went from an 03 350Z to a TL, not even a Tl-S, and I don't regret it at all. I'm probably older than you OP but I think it is a great car,but don't kid yourself, you'll be moddig your TL. Maintenance wise...reliable and would be similar to your Civic, except for synthetic oil changes...get an 07 or 08 and avoind the tranny issues or the earlier AT models.

Welcome! I drive an 06 which I bought about 2 years ago I get 30 mpg highway doing 80 mph. I can get 32 mpg at 70 mph My combined city/hwy avg is 24 mpg. What shocked me was how dirty my air filter was the first time I changed it. It was clogged with leaves, cotton seeds from trees, etc and I was still getting over 30 mpg.

From the research I've done I couldn't find tranny issues with the 06. It seems to have been primarily the 04 - 05's. A few reasons to get the 07 - 08 though would be slightly restyled interior / exterior. Exterior would be fog lights relocated to the the bumper and better looking tail lights. Added turn signals to side mirrors and stock rims are nicer than the 04-06 imo too. I personally wouldn't say the interior looks better just a little different steering wheel. They did add MP3 cd play capability which is nice and has a switchblade key instead of separate key / fob.
If your a person that likes to mod your cars few of those things I mentioned would matter too much bc you may end up with after market rims, TL-S tail lights or some other style there are many options. iPhone / iPod adapter for playing MP3's etc.

Thanks for the info, Greg. How are the rattles/squeaks?

Same here bro, good luck with your search. Are you looking for auto or M/T?

No complaints so far it's got about 57K on it. I've heard some people say the rear deck shelf can rattle a bit from the stock sub woofer but isn't too difficult to fix. They are well built cars imo and surprisingly easy to work on. I've had an Infiniti fx and BMW and I wouldn't never work on those. The TL is almost simple in its design maybe that's one of the reasons its so reliable.

I'm slightly leaning to auto but if a good manual one comes along I'll take it. U?

There is a rattle issue with the sub woofer in the cars, but that is fairly easy to fix. Mine might be rattling but I'm half deaf so I couldn't hear it if it was.

I've never noticed this either, but that could be because I am deaf as well. I recently bought my 08 base in June and I love it!

The sub rattles are easy to fix. Took me about 10 minutes total. I love my TLS and wouldnt trade it for anything less than a new M3

There is no major issue with the 3rd gen TL, as far for MPG the car is capable of 30 MPG on highway 22 for city with conservative driving if you beating it the gas mileage in my TL-S is 19 city 29 highway 22 MPG combine.
