Acura Schedule Maintenance
 
Is there any reason we should do the 30k-60k-90k Dealer maintenance when we have the car tell us what it need to be done?

I have 04 TL with 60k miles now (bought it a year ago). The car notification is showing A13 which is oil changes, tire rotation, and replace the tranmission fluid.

I just did B2 few months back which is more through inspections, replace air cleaner element and dust/pollent filter, oil changes, tire rotation etc.

I have quoted for $399 for the 60k service. It seems that it is similar to B2 maintenance.




1. Do you guys recommend me to do 60k service? or just do the A13 maintenance (for $239)? I have to replace the transmission oil anyway after the 60k service

2. What is Air cabin filter in the Acura world? is it the same as cleaner element and dust/pollent filter?
I do not see "replace air cabin filter" in the Acura Maintenance minder

3. TIMING BELT. I live in Area where summer is hot (we can have 110 F for weeks) but winter is mild (not that cold). So we only have extreme temp for weeks not the whole year. The dealer recommend me to replace the timing belt now at 60k. Any reoommendation from Acura users?

1. I'd go with the A13 service, no sense duplicating that.

2.Air Cabin Filter = Pollen Filter
Cleaner Element = Engine Air Filter

3. 60K seems really early on the timing belt. Manual says 105K.

I always follow Acura's recommendations (owner's manual). The dealers often will "reccommend" more service than what's in the owner's manual.

I recently took my wife's '07 CR-V in for service which called for an oil change, tire rotation, air & pollen filters and differential service. The service writer gave me a handout with lots of extras they "strongly recommend for just $599". I wish the manufacturers could reign in some of these dealerships who attempt to have customers over-service their vehicles.

Follow the MID and in IMHO you dont drive 'regularly' enough in extreme temperatures to warrant changing the belt.

I've lived in Vegas since 1995, sounds like you live in Arizona???? If so, you should replace the timing belt and water pump if you hit 60K...why? Because the desert heat will deteriorate your belts and hoses more than anywhere else. Notice all the replies are from anywhere but the desert; weather in Florida and Maryland is not remotely the same as out here. Just had the work done on my 03 MDX with almost 60K miles and was told by my aftermarket warranty folks it was a good idea. Why? Because if the timing belt breaks between now and 105k and messes up the engine, they'll cover it. They would not cover it if I had not changed at 60K because they consider where I live to be severe weather, and if the manual recommends it, you should do it. It is over 100 degrees in AZ and Vegas from June through September and that is enough heat to be considered severe. Good luck.

I have 80K on my 04 TL and a member here has only 16K miles on his 04, which I have seen in person.

I have 63K on my 03 TL and 57K on my 06 TL. Depends on how much you drive!

I live in Las Vegas. I just changed a timing belt on an 03 Pilot (same engine) and both the timing belt and water pump looked new at 112k miles. It's not 115*+ all year round. These parts last just fine out here...

BTW: I changed a CRX timing belt @ over 100k miles (205k on the car) and it still looked good. No deterioration or anything...

I would go w/ 105k change out...
