Acura Made Amends
Ok.. so Acura is back on my goodside with my low production model ser# TL.
As of monday nite it would appear that my check engine light problem is fixed. They replaced the Crank Angle Sensor and it seems ok for two days now.
Lady from Client Services over Georgia called to make amends and I said an extended warranty would be nice and she obliged. I'm going to get 6 year 75,000 warranty for my troubles. WOO HOO.
I'm all happy now.
Eurolithe, go for it..

Good for you!
This gives the rest of us hope that if we have the same fate, Acura will stand behind the product and at least try to make things right.
Lets just hope they are learning as they go on all these problems that are popping up in the early VINs.
Since I haven't even ordered mine yet (still testing some other cars to be sure on the TL), I hope that they get the majority of the manufacturing kinks worked out.

I don't know much about auto manufacturing cycles, but is it reasonable to expect that instead of buying now, but waiting and buying a 2004 TL 3 or 6 months from now will give me a greater likelihood of getting a quality vehicle and avoiding Sherlock's situation? Or is it more prudent to wait until the 2005's come out (inert groaning noise here).
Also, glad they worked out your problem, Sherlock.

Congrats, Sherlock! I wish it hadn't taken so much work for Acura to stand by its product, though. My consolation is that my early VIN is later than those that were having problems.
elroy, just buy now. VIN #s are now running in the 5-6k range, the early manufacturing errors have likely been resolved.

Frankly, I'd wait. Any first-year glitches and teething pains for the new TL should be resolved by 2005. This is a good rule for any sophisticated product.
The absolute BEST thing to do is to wait until the last year of the production cycle - but then, of course, the downside is that you're being seduced by the new models! But waiting a year is probably a good idea.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm sure I will make a cold, logical review of the data, add a dose of caution since it's not often I make a $35K purchase, and then make some totally emotional, spur-of-the-moment decision!
