Acura and Car Wash
A few years ago, I heard that automated car washes were
not 'accepting' Acuras, because their dimensions were such
that that they were getting scratched.
Is this true of the 2204 TL? Has anybody else heard of
this ?

I have heard nothing of the sort and saw a WDP TL rolling through one of our local auto car washes just the other day.
Personally, I'm with Mr. - hand wash by you or someone else is the only way to go. After all, would you use a wash cloth that 5,000 other guys used to wash themselves off before you used it? Think of the dirt, grime, ball cheese on that darn thing and now you're using it. Same holds true for those auto car washes.....if you think those brushes don't have any rust, salt, sand, dirt, twigs imbedded in them, you got another thing coming.

BTW, I believe most of dealers offer the free hand wash, right?
I saw the guy in my stupid dealer using the big brush to rub the hoods and roof, is it good? Is it supposed to be part of hand wash procedure?
Kind of scary

Hand wash is the only choice. The very possibility of getting a scratch is enough to keep TLs out of those auto carwash places. Touch free maybe acceptable....but i always get better result when i hand wash.

Car washes are REALLY bad news for your car - hand washing included.
1. The Detergent is REALLY strong to get all the grease and dirt off in one fast pass guaranteed. It will strip all wax instantly, and can damage the paint in the long run.
2. The washing devices, be they brushes (YOWCH) or pads, or hand towels still contain the residue of the previous cars or trucks, or off-road vehicles, etc, and it is being dragged over your cars.
3. So-called "toucheless" car washes are actually sand-blasting your car with your own dirt, and can also damage your rubber seals around doors and windows.
4. Car washes use cheap poly/cotton towels that automatically create minor "spider-web" scratching every time they are used.
Try to find a way to do it yourself. A nice car deserves this.

I think the car wash track (that thing that pinches your tire and moves the car along) is what people are complaining about. They are designed to be low enough as to not come in contact with the wheels. However, you can see the problem with the low profile tires TL are equipped with.
I live in warm climate so I do try to wash the car my self as much as possible. However, I need a quick wash sometimes so I do take the car in (and get pissed for them missing all the spots). Also, washing your car also gives it a good inspection of sort to see what damages you've collected recently - more anguish.
