Acura buy back program

My cousin has been telling me for weeks that he keeps getting these letters/postcards from the dealer telling him that his 08 TL type S is in high demand and that they want to buy it back from him. It's a lease and he's only 11 months into it, maybe 10k miles. Now he told me that while he was getting his oil changed at the dealer, they again asked him if he wanted to turn in his lease early. He told me he took the offer and he no longer has his TL.

Do you think this is true? I gotta say "BS". I never heard of dealer going into a lease and not make any money on it. I would have believed it if he came home with a new Acura but he didn't.

Has anybody heard of this before?

I recall getting a post card from Acura while back, informing me that my 99 CL is in high demand, and they want me to bring it in for trade in. Couple of years ago, I got the same thing, regarding my 03 RSX. I have a feeling, that I'll be getting another card about my 08 TL-S. I think it's just another way to get you in the dealership, and show you how fugly that 4G TL really is.

They basically want you to upgrade the newer generation of vehicles. Basically if you have a 3G TL, they want you to trade-in your vehicle (they will profit by this 100%), than make you get a 09' TSX or 09' TL. They may say that they will give you 20k for your TL and that sounds like a really good deal then the car (TSX just guessing MSRP 29k) is overpriced by 3k which will end up becoming even on the deal. Just my personal experience

I received some emails asking if I wanted to trade my car in. Used cars are selling well these days so they could want you to sell your car back and they sell it for profit to someone else. Also get you to trade up and get a new car off their lot.

When I had my 08 TL-S in for a tire rotation and HFL replacement, the dealer offered to buy it off of me. Didn't have to trade it either, straight up cash deal if I wanted.

Wink

I used to get these all the time for my accord as well. They just want you to come in to the dealership so they can rip you off once again

Just hard to believe that a dealer would end his lease early without any penalties. You would think it would be more profitable to let him continue with the lease because in the end they'll get the car back anyway.

I get that letter monthly from my old Infiniti dealer even though I sold the car. It is a marketing ploy to get you to buy a new car.

Any strings attached?

I mean do they obligate you to roll off the dealer with a new lease or purchase?

or can you cash your profit and keep walking?

no strings attached for me. i could have walked out of the dealer w/ $5,000 in my pocket if i didn't want to purchase another vehicle. i did the mistake in test driving the TL so they got their money right back. i love my TL though.

Thanks for the answer.. Love my TL also.. but if I got an offer like that I would probably walk off with an MDX for the wife and figure out what to get next for myself

But mine is a Base.. I understand the TL-S are the ones with the buy back hype..

Its a Gimmick

I work at a GM dlr and we send out those post cards all the time to everyone that buys/leases a car regaurdless.. Its just to get them in the door.
Some / most companies have a buyout program for leased customers if they get a new car but the most # of payments are 6 months most of the time it is 3 months but if he has that much left on his lease they can't buy it cuz the bank owns the car they don't.
They jusyt REALLY need to get rid of the UGLY 4g Tl's so they are doing all they can to get people in the door to look at them!

^as stated its a marketing tool to get you in the door.
if you're considering a new car anyway, then go see what your dealer has to offer!

you dont even have to bring the postcard.....

i used to get the letters/postcards. then recently i got a call from a lady in the pre-owned dept. she thought i had a lease on my car, i said i own my car outright. she thought i had a 07-08 TL. i said i have an 05. i told her i have NO interest in getting a new car and a car payment for a long time. AND i love my car too much. she gave me some line after her initial confusion that my name was on her VIP list to give a call and she thought it was kind of odd. she said they appreicate my loyalty and then asked if there was anything she could do for me. i said yeah if you want ot give me free oil changes for the rest of the life of the car that would be great. she laughed and then said she didn't have the authority to do that otherwise she'd send me gift certificates if she did. i didn't get a chance to tell her that the new TL looks too fugly to even give it a thought to buy.
