Accord vs. GTI

This section seems to be in dire need of a good run. Well, one happened some time ago in the far distant land of............... anyways.....I had a run with an 07 GTI DSG trans. He is Stage 2 and was running his 100oct tune file on water/meth. He is on the stock exhaust with a resonator delete (apparently exhaust is only good for a few hp anyway from what I've seen, mostly sound). We got in about 4-5 runs. Keep in mind Stage 2 usually puts down ~240whp/290wtq on 93oct tune weighing ~3100.

35 roll: He gets me by ~2 cars to 115
40 rolls: He pulls 1-1.5 cars to 90 where I come back in 4th gear and have to let off around 100 at his door. This happened twice.
50 roll: I get a slight jump and pull 2 cars to 125

I was happy with the outcome. Neither of us were sure what to expect to be honest, but I knew they would be good runs.

Sonnick good kills/losses, REVO Stage 2 GTI's are good for like 275hp/295tq, so I am surprised by the outcome but nontheless, is the hp/tq numbers in your sig up to date? If so man I am stunned... lol

Is the GTI driver any good? lol I know its an auto but damn!

Nice runs man! I don't know anything about GTi's but apparently they haul ass haha very nice

Our...TL/Accord...4th gears are very strong IMO. Seems like every race that's about even thru the first 3 gears, the Accords/TLs pull slightly in 4th.

I'm gonna say it ECU and you would have pulled on him every run.

Thanks guys. He was an APR Stage 2. Apparently APR is 'more conservative,' but what do I know. There are arguments all the time on the forums over there which tuner is better, etc.

I think the numbers you are referring to are for the MK6. They make more power than the MK5s due to a better fueling system. But like I said, he was an MK5 running water/meth and a 100oct tune, so I imagine he's running stronger than a normal APR Stage 2 MK5. That thing was quick tho; I was powershifting like no tomorrow.

Alex, I agree our 4th gear is pretty strong. Only car that was close through 2-3 that actually creeped on me in 4th was a rev up G35. He was modded of course. And I concur about the ECU

Nice runs man! The modded GTI's are no joke. Nice to see the accord can keep up. Very respectable runs.

Good runs sonnick........

I am in the process of trying to set up a couple runs hopefully they happen this weekend......

so the runs in store is 07' TL-S 5at(me) vs Stock 08' TL-S 6mt

and then me again versus Stock 2011 335i (N55) 6mt (he will be hard to convice as I been trying to run him for the longest time and always has something going on

I ran a GTI a while back before I got my ECU and needless to say it's not even worth a story!! lol but yeah modded those things are pretty quick i see

Fixed it for ya

Still available pretty much all weekend so let me know what your plans are. I'm down to join with the N55 too if you persuade him to run.

Nice runs, Sonnick! Modded GTIs are no joke!

Any huge difference between a 2009 and 2012 GTi? I know the exterior has been freshened up but not sure if the engine is still the same.

And how much do you think it cost him to get to 250whp?

Just trying to compare mods vs price between this and the TL. I spent about $2400 on the TL and got maybe 250-255whp. I assume that's what the dyno would have read with precats, jpipe, exhaust, CAI, pulley.

The one I ran was an 07 I believe, which has the "FSI" motor. The TSI motor came in the "08.5" models to current. The MK6 come with a HPFP from the factory and respond better to mods than the MKVs. I believe they put down a bit more power in stock form as well, but when modded they make more power. However, I'd assume since this particular GTI was running his 100oct tune and meth, that it'd be equivalent to a Stage 2 MK6 GTI with the TSI motor.

Tl/Accord are very strong in 4th? Compare to what? TL AUTO???

It's very weak compare to Mazdaspeed 3 4th gear. TL/Accord 4th gear should pull *nearly* as hard as 5th gear on my MS3. And my 6th gear is most powerful, compare to all your 6th gears... waahahahahahahahahahaha Can't find any other car that has this strong 6th gear, seriously. You really really want get serious with highway pull racing get the MS3. It's faster.

Sir, I was talking stock for stock. Please don't get so personal...

Really, realistically speaking, the MS3 does have tight 6th gear. I can literally pull pretty hard with this gear from 70 and up. I don't even need to downshift to do some spirited driving. Hell, even at 60 mph I get a lot of power on top gear. Mazda did some brilliant job on the gearing for the speed division. The car has so much muscle I don't feel I need to mod any. Plus by doing that it *can* void my warranty.. this is new car yo.
