Accord 6spd vs. Modded MS3

Last night I met up with a few MS3/6 guys at a local spot. We BS'd and whatnot, but I posted on MSF if there was anyone looking to run an Accord 6spd. So here it is. Video(s) will be posted at some point tomorrow or Sunday.

The Speed3 has CAI/test pipe. My mods are in my sig. We did about 3-4 'clean' runs. Unfortunately, there was a ~170lb passenger in the MS3 but we were fortunate enough to get vids

Most of the runs were pretty even actually. The 1 vid I was sent was from 35 (ehh for me) to ~120. 2nd/3rd we were pretty dead even. Just before my 3-4 shift, he shifted 4-5 and I pulled about 1/2 car or so. He started creeping back on me at the top of his 5th gear, then shifted to 6th and I started creeping again just before we shut it down. Most of the other runs were similar except for the high 1st gear roll we did where I pulled a car or slightly more by the top of 3rd. If he didn't have the passenger, I probably would have been at his rear door/QP for these runs minus the 1st gear roll which would I may have been ahead by a fender or so; possible stalemate.

The MS3 is a quick car, even very lightly modded as I found out. The guy was a good driver and kept it right in the powerband where he needed to. Troll, have a blast.

When I get the vids, yes. The MS3 is very sensitive to RPM shift points apparently. The turbo falls flat on its face after 6K so on the stock turbo with minimal mods the shift point is like 5800RPM. I'd hate that. I like taking the bish all the way to redline.

I wish I could update the first post...5min edit FTL. I forgot to add he had 17" RPF1s as well.

EDIT: Thank you Justin. Not sure if they were 17s or 18s.

Nice runs! I am very impressed with the MS3. Test drove one (my buddy is the finance manager over at a mazda dealer). I was thoroughly impressed with that car especially for the price. Sonnick what year MS3 did you race?

yes quick car ...I ran a MS3 which was modded(mod unknown besides exhaust)...all I kept hearing was the blowoff valve which was really loud as fawk!!! with 1 passenger I ran him 2x from a 40/50roll with same results him being 1car ahead of me at around 110mph and seemed to be pulling further if the race went on!!! very nice!

Sorry for the poor quality of the 2nd vid. There should be a few more vids but I haven't seen them yet.

He missed 5th on this run.

At least you can carry more groceries in greater comfort. I don't think having a passenger puts the MS3 at a disadvantage, I'd say it evens out the handicap.

Na it did.it was a quick car regardless. The RPF1s definitely helped though, they're so light.

^ Did I post the vids? I don't see them. Here they are again. They're upside down???? Sorry lol.

This was a 25mph roll. Was told the MS3 was 'heat soaked' in this vid.

http://s32.photobucket.com/albums/d4...t=IMG_0386.mp4

This was a ~40 roll, I started a bit late

Anxiously awaiting the trolls input.

Nice runs Sonnick! The Accord is running as strong as ever, how many miles do you have on it?

Btw my last race in the TL was vs a turbo cobalt and I pulled on him from a 40mph roll, doesn't the MS3 compete with a Cobalt SS?

Thanks man. ^ Yea, but I think the Cobalt has a slightly bigger turbo.

98K and running strong lol. Still on stock plugs/timing belt. Have to change both soon. Probably before I go back to the track in the fall.

Haha. Yes they do hold their value. Tell him to get the 8G! I see them around and wish I would've gotten one. Although I do love my 7G, I have a soft spot for the 6MT 8G

If I were in the market for another newer Honda / Acura, I would choose the TL-S 6MT over the 8G Accord coupe .. the thought of no LSD draws me away from it.

Not to mention how much tech the TL-S has standard.

Too bad the TL-S 6mt are either overpriced or have too many miles on cars.com

The mid-30 mpg that I get in my 12 Accord sedan is what compelled me to pull the trigger.

However, I'm assuming you have a 5MT as the 5AT is not quick in the least. While the K24Z3 is a good motor, it comes up short when anchored to a 3300lb sedan with an auto tranny. I wont even go into performance when loaded with three passengers while the AC is on.

I lul'd when he said that.

He said he usually doesn't run, but he would be down. However, I don't think he would come to you either. Maybe in time at some other meet locally between you two it could happen, who knows.

Sorry, meant to say the 8G Accord 6MT is quick. My Accord is a 5MT and it's not quick at all. I'm sure it won't even hit 90mph in the 1/4 mile

I remember seeing somewhere that you were looking in a V6 Accord instead?

I told ya that like a million times haven't I? You gotta shift at a right point to get best power. Not only you gotta know how to drive a manual but *knowing* the car.

The turbo falls flat on its face after 6K so on the stock turbo with minimal mods the shift point is like 5800RPM. I'd hate that. I like taking the bish all the way to redline.
You are almost correct. Very good. You definitely pay attention. That's for the Gen 1 though. For Gen 2, the stock is good till 5750 rpm. Gen 1 at around 5450~ 5500 rpm bone stock. I told you the Mazda has made changes to improve high-end for the Gen 2... They don't fall out of powerband as quickly as the Gen 1's do. They improved on TMIC cooling and revised the ECU.

Now go try Gen 2 bone stock. There has been plenty of incidents Gen 2 either beating or being equal to a lightly modded (CAI/SRI + TP) Gen 1 from roll to triple digits.

Oh yes it does. Weight plays a big role in car's performance. Who knows, that guy could actually weigh 200 lbs. Without the passenger that lightly modded MS3 should pull about 2 car lengths on Sonnick's Accord.

It means squat. I told you this like 1 million times already. These cars are not made for quarter mile runs. They are made for highway pulls. 103 trap MS3 is comparable to a RWD car that traps 106+. Just be sure to add 3 or 4 mph on the MS3 for comparison. For rolling race I mean. From dig MS3 is slow.

Unless your TL was severely modded, you can't pull on a Speed 3 like that.

Btw, good thread, Sonnick. You have great passion for your vehicle and represent your Honda....

Hey, all these doesn't really matter to me as I don't own a MS3......

MS3: That MS3 would never pull 2 cars on me from any speed. The passenger weighed ~160. Like I said he was on RPF1s which probably almost negated the passenger (not fully, but at least somewhat) since they are 00ber light. We all know decreasing rolling mass is a great way to accelerate quicker. With that said, it is what it is and they were good runs regardless of the nonsense.

The driver kept the car in the powerband and he shifted well too. The 1st gear roll I would've pulled 2 cars by 120 easily.

I wouldn't add 3-4mph on the trap. I trapped 102 and creeped on this MS3. Without the passenger I would've been at his rear QP for most of these runs with the exception of the 1st gear roll, which would've been pretty even/me slightly ahead.

Regardless they were good runs and we will probably get a couple more once we are both tuned. I did underestimate the MS3 a bit, but we still had good runs.

^ I wonder if he himself is overweight, hmmmm... j/k

And of course the driving skill still plays a serious role. We know you drive good, pushing it to the limit of your car.

Still would like to see how you fair up against the stock and lightly modded Gen 2 from 60- 130 or +. You can surely beat the Gen 2 easier than the Gen 1 from dig and 1st or 2nd gear pull. 3rd and 4th gear roll, watch out for that demon. I was able to easily take on the full exhaust modded Mustang V8 ('06~ '09) on the highway from 80- 135 with my showroom stock gen 2. But from 50- 100 I wasn't able to pull on him. He was a tad faster.

But yeah, you've got good runs on your part nevertheless.

MS3 are just too slow, I don't know why some try to "race" me when I'm in my Teggy, but quickly back off when they see me in my M3 (maybe it has something to do with that whistling sound coming from under my hood).
