Accord 6MT vs Evo
I've run 2 Evo's so far and do not know which Gen they were
Anyway..I was in a rush last night so I was driving a little faster than usual. I see an Evo, passed him and just glanced over. I guess he saw how I was driving and got behind me. We end up at a light but don't get crazy knowing he is AWD and I am FWD. From a 1st gear roll, about 20 he punches it first then I punch it. We are even through 1st and 2nd, he had a fender on me until the top of 2nd where I started pulling slightly and by the end of 3rd he was at my rear bumper. We talked he asked what I had and I said intake/jpipe and he's like "that's it?!" He had an intake and his gf in the car. Nice guy and a good run.

That's a pretty good kill; or the driver was really bad. I can't ever imagine an Evo being beat by an Accord with just an intake/j-pipe....

Evo's are quick when modded, especially exhaust mods. He only had an intake which doesn't do much at all with those cars, so it's not out of the ordinary. I've beaten both of the Evo's I've ran so far
#5
If this is the case, I'm gonna have to say that besides the mods, the Accord seems to have a pretty good driver behind the wheel.

Thanks man. I've only been told good things about my driving so I like to think so.
When modded Evo's are straight BEASTS, but from the factory or very lightly modded our TL/Accord V6 can hang right with them. Needless to say he was shocked too. He might have thought I was a 4cyl though because I unbolted the driver side muffler for a little exhaust note

Good job. I'm not surprised, my 5AT put half a car on one from a 60-110mph roll. They're very moddable but not super fast stock.

The older stock JDM Evo's are in the 12's but not so with the ones here. The ones here have less power and weigh quite a bit more...for the new Evo, it got even slower...it can only trap 99mph according to Car and Driver (the MR version).

They sure can. If we went from a dig we all know what the outcome would have been. He had gotten a small jump on me but he also had a passenger in the car and I didn't. I'm always up for a good run!

I remember when I sold my 03' evo and bought an 05' I said man this car feels pretty damn slow. After the break in period I threw on my old mods (tbe, cams, cam gears, mbc, a K&n drop in, 660cc, and a walbro fuel pump) had alfred at Tuning Technologies dyno tune it and left with 327/340 to the wheels. Not bad for 2000 in parts and a 500 tune. That car with those exact parts on a race gas tune (C16 and a race tune dyno at 381/405 at 31 pounds) ran a 11.9 at 114, 115, 115, 115, and 116 at two tracks, las vegas and cal speedway. I did have an aftermarket clutch exedy twin disc.
A stock evo on a roll very mellow. A few properly selected parts and a good tune complete different. Most evo's with just an intake run slower then stock if they have not been tuned. Stock evo's with a aftermarket intake and bov are mid 14's at best. Stock evo no mods is normally a mid to high 13.
I forget to mention my car is has the ssl package which adds weight about 80 pounds.
The evo can also be difficult to drive.... if your not on the boost your going no where fast. My evo now has 500+ and if I'm cruising along in 5th at 3k rpm and punch it I will lose to a yaris for about 4 seconds. However if I downshift to 4th or 3rd I hunting bullet bikes.
I enjoy my tl-s but it is nothing like the driving experience my evo gives me.

I can. I stayed with one in my TL a few months ago from a first gear roll. I have an 05 TL with just an intake and a catback. TL's can surprisingly stay with evos from a roll. I would assume a 6-mt accord would be similar in performance.

I've been hearing an untuned intake makes the Evo/Sti slower, why is that?

the stock HP of a STi is about 240whp and 300 at the crank, depending on what kind of dyno. With my mods and my tune, im at 331whp, which is a huge improvement, and roughly around 380hp at the crank. Therefore a stock STi/Evo would get mollywopped by my car. and in the spring time.... i'll be way over 400whp. so 90whp is not a lot more power of stock? :shakehead
Evo's and STi's are actually worse when you put mods that effect the induction of air, without a protune, which is essentially a dyno tune. THe turbulence in the intake actually causes innaccurate MAF readings in the intake, therefore sometimes causing a car to run too lean or too rich. The ever popular debate on almost any wrx or STi forum is the dreaded BOV. That is one of the most useless mods you can do to the evos or sti's, since both are on the MAF intake system. When you put a blow off valve on a car thats relying on bypass valve to recirculate the air back through the intake, you run incredibly rich for that shift, and you shoot a flame out from all the excess fuel getting burnt out through the exhaust.
The Air intake issue gets solved as soon the tuner starts fixing the a/f ratio's.

Out of curiosity, are your MAF sensors the hot wire style and do they have a screen before the wire?

^it's a stalk with a very fine maf wire up top with an iat bulb further down on the tip; not much of a screen, just a few plastic air stabilization strips molded into the intake box just before the sensor.

cobalt ss vs. evo
from a dig evo would take and run away. the new cobalts Launchcontrol is worse then the GTR's.
the new evo is severly dissappointing.
but if you magazine race, then thats not very accurate as well. Most magazines are very biased towards car companies. For example in the last test between the evo and the Sti, the sti won in ever category.... except skid pad i think... and just because of that.. subaru lost. Bullshit.
i think the most unbiased show so far that i have seen is Fifth gear. Real good knowledge, and you dont hear jeremy clarkson being a tool.

op, the evo u ran must have had an intake and no tune or a slipping clutch.

doesn't make sense to me at all. Even the EVO 8 vs. an 06 TL 6spd.
TL weighs 300lbs + more. It has less hp and torque (258hp/233ft lb vs. 276hp/286ft lb).
They trap about the same speed in the 1/4 mile but then the time difference is almost half a second...
good kill

In a real drag race from a standstill, the EVO is going to put a buslength on the TL off the start and the TL will stay about that distance behind for the whole race. From a roll, either one could win. The EVO has much more potential when modded, the TL will never be a good drag car.

I have not ran a TL 6MT but If I did I'm sure it'd be a good race. I'd be happy to run one tho
Oh anx1300c...that 14.3 @99 I ran was with a 2.4 60'. It was the first time at the track with the Accord 6MT and my launching technique was terrible. I think I got the launch down now so when the track opens up I'm shooting for 13.8 @100 on stock tires.

Stock EVO's only put down anywhere around 200-230whp stock. The car is around 3200lbs too. So you have a good advantage from a roll.

i researched evo's awhile back when i was interested in doing a trade for a ix but modding is ridiculous and if you think we spend alot of money on our TL's we have nothing on evo's x_X i think every mod installed eventually requires a 300-400 dollar tune for them lol but yeah if they weren't tuned then the car really wasn't producing anything spectacular
btw why are there evo/sti owners on acurazine ? xP

Why does everyone think it's a TL? I posted ACCORD 6MT. Basically the same in performance, but I have an '06 Accord 6MT. From a 1st gear roll it was dead even, I pulled a little in 2nd and 3rd, only about a half car. It's not like I pulled on an SRT8, Evo's are quick but so is the 6MT Accords/TLs. From any roll it should be close, from a dig is where the problem lies.
