Accidentally bought 9005 Bulb for 2005 TL (read on)
I've accidentally purchased a 9005 nokya bulb for a buddy (xmas gift) when I noticed on the sylvania lamp replacement guide info stating that the High beam/DRL was 9006.
Is it still possible to run the 9005s with slight modification? From what I've gathered and researched the main difference between the two bulbs would be the tabs?
Someone please help clarify. Trying to figure out if it would be much safer to get it replaced with the actual size but I run into the trouble of shipping product back, etc.
Thanks for all the help!

Our highbeams and low beams are all 1 bulb, an D2S HID bulb! The inner light (closer to the grille) is a fog light or DRL depending on year! Personally, I'd rather get the right bulb rather than trying to mod the 9005.
I doubt you would even need to mod the bulb. I thought the only difference was that the 9005's don't have that coating on the tip of the bulb and are usually 55 watt because they are generally used in high beams. My old truck took a 9006 in the low beams, 9005 in the high beams, and a 9145 in the fogs and I ran 9005's in all of them. In my TL's fogs I actually am running one of the old hid kits I had from that truck so I think it's safe to say it should fit.
The 9005 has a different plug than the 9006. You could replace the plug in the car, and have a much more projected light. Or file the prongs down on the bulb. The 9006 has one prong, the 9005 has two.
