Accident Avoidence

Accident Avoidence
Well my 2005 TL just earned its keep. I was driving to meet some friends for lunch and a woman about 75 years old did not see me in a white TL on a clear day and almost took me out. I still can not believe I was able to avoid her. I spun the car about 270 degrees and the traction control and anti-lock brakes helped control the car and steer it away from her into oncoming traffic in a different direction. It came to rest a few inches from her and other vehicles. My passenger could not believe what I had done and I could'nt either since I had closed my eyes awaiting the impact that never came. Although everything seems to be fine, my only concern now is any brake or suspension damage from such a violent maneuver.

I wouldn't exactly call it controlling the car when you spun 3/4 of a turn.
As long as you didn't hit anything, the suspension can take that. But I would check the tires for flat spots in case they locked up and slid sideways.

You know what they say...
"Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing"
As for your question.. No I doubt it would cause any damage, that is what it is design to do.
Now if you had a MONSTER TL like the one in my Avatar you could of just drove right over her.

If I gave the impression that I spun out, that is not what happened. The car went where I directed it with me laying big time into the brakes and the anti-locks kicking in as the car did that moan/vibration thing. I ended up facing oncoming traffic from another direction. I sat there for about 30 seconds and did not move the vehicle---and although I was holding up traffic at a major intersection no one did a thing. I think they were all happy I did not slam into them. I wish I could take more credit for it but like I said after some very quick crazy maneuvers I shut my eyes instinctively because I thought I was goning to be hit by the woman as well as slam into other cars. I will take credit for paying total attention. I had been driving my Subaru because the weather has not been great in the northeast, so I was really enjoying the TL after garaging it for two weeks and was driving with two hands on the wheel.
