Hey,

I've found a couple possible contenders for my next vehicle. I've been looking at Acura TL Type S' for quite awhile now and have noticed that the prices range quite a bit. The one I'm looking at now has about 47,000 miles on it. My intention of selling my Acura RSX was because it was at 52,000 miles and I thought that was high.

The car I'm looking at is NBP and looks to be in excellent condition. They have it listed for around $30,000! It is Acura Certified, however, I'm not sure that means much to me as I would have the intention of importing this vehicle to Canada. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should be paying for this vehicle, and whether I should go for this one or wait for one with low miles / km's.

Forgot to ask this as well: Are American imports less valuable in Canada? If I were to sell/trade this 2008 Acura TL Type S in the Canadian market, would I have to lower the price because it is "American"?

Today's driving averages seem to be around 10000-15000 miles a year. I bought my 07 with 36k on it a few months ago.

Seems a bit much with that many miles, price-wise. Mileage-wise, that isn't high mileage for a car like this that can go over 200k if well maintained.

Thanks! I know I would feel better getting one with lower mileage, but this one seems pretty good so I'll consider it. It is a 2008 model, and assuming the original owner bought it in 2007, I guess this mileage would be ok. Also, this is a dealership selling the vehicle, so there is definitely room for negotiating but it probably wouldn't hurt if I gave them a lower offer. I feel like this "Acura Certification" is a business tactic to up the prices on their used vehicles. I've just been kicking myself for letting one with 15,000 km on it get away.

Would you guys be able to answer my other question about the value of American imports in Canada?

why do you want to buy a almost brand new car when you will save so much money by buying one will a little bit more miles.

For me i think 50K is expectable mileage for 07 TL. That is about what i got mine at, and it's still going strong after it passed 70K just yesterday.

that price is kind of high for the mileage... I say keep looking u'll get what u want with patience... a friend of mine fell in love with my 08 TL-S and he wanted on told him they are still high on pricing range right now... short story long I found one (08 TL-S) for 25k with 15k on the clock 1 owner clean carfax. Patience is the key though if the dealer knows ur desperate to jump into a knew car well guess what? ur gonne get the no lube treatment.

Average miles is 15k. I drive 35-40k a year. I'd want to lower that price though. Not only is there a new model out already (4G), but is technically a 4 year old car. (08's are made in 07 and so on). Don't tell them you're bringing it to Canada unless your legally obligated too. I doubt they would lower the price or anything if you said that, because they can just sell it to an American and they would benefit on the warranty. Also try searching around auto-trader even a private seller and if you like the private seller then get it from him/her if not use that AD as a bargaining technique on the price of the car. Show KBB and other tools to counter-offer. The car should be only 23k for an 08 and 25k for a Type-S for an 08.

High mileage for a Honda is 100k+ in all honesty. 47K miles is nothing to be worried about. Likely mostly highway miles, which aren't as demanding as "city" miles are. (stop/go, brakes on and off, accelerating, gears shifting, etc.)

I got my 07 type-s with 49k miles on it for $25k. I didn't have to import or anything and it's a Canadian model. I only had to drive 300km to get it.

The one your looking at sounds way too expensive. Also considering everything you would have to pay with import fees, look elsewhere. I remember when I was looking for a TL a few months back a bunch of type-s models kept popping up in Vancouver. I was considering having it sent over if I bought it there but decided to keep my search relatively local. Patience paid out and I got my type-s for a decent price. Best of luck in your search.

I thought I read somewhere that if you do in fact import, AcuraCa won't offer any warranty on it or honor any warranty claims? I could be mistaken.

47,000 miles is a lot? Here are my past cars before I wrecked or sold it:
1991 Accord with 300,000 miles
2000 Accord with 180,000 miles
2002 Accord with 150,000 miles
2002 S2000 with 120,000 miles

Current cars:
2005 Accord with 100,000 miles
2005 TL with 40,000 miles

All those cars I ever owned drove like new. Trust me, Honda engines run like a tank with just proper treatment. Also I use regular oil on all engines.

all my research tells me that you would have no warranty if you bring an "American" car to Canada - also I know you are in B.C. but if you look at the cars in Southern Ontario the price sounds a bit high -- 57K mi = 90Km which sounds a bit high for an 08 -- is that price in $ U.S. - take a look at some of the websites in Ontario for a more accurate comparison - don't forget you will have to pay taxes when you bring it across the border as well as getting it acceptable for Canada (DRL, bilingual warning stickers, etc.) I think Cdn Tire stores will do this.

When I bought my car it had 22k miles on it now I have 32k miles. Still runs good. I would say 50k miles tops. But it also depends a lot on how the car was maintained.

Bought mine with 07 tl-s with 70k. It was a CPO and was maintained extremely well. Car drives like new and is in better shape than some 30-50k mile TLs I was looking at. I think it just depends on the car itself.

I have the same car yours. Mine is 07 TL-S MRP with 102K on it yes isn't a typo and I wish you guy take a test drive in my car,is like drive a car with 20K or 30K, in these cars the most important thing is the maintainance.

How can you tell whether it's been maintained properly? Do you really notice the difference as you drive it? Does "Acura Certified" reall mean something other than warranty benefits?

I didnt think they could certify anything over 60K. Maybe it has to do with the year as well.

I got my 07 Type S with 45K for CPO for $25,500 OTD including taking the bumper to bumper warranty up to 100K miles.

Have you looked at local cars ? When i look on CL 07-08 Type s' are all around 30000. Just wondering why you would go through the work etc to import a usdm one for the same price?

Unfortunately, I would say maintenence is more important than mileage when you're talking relatively small mileage differences. Mine at nearly 100,000 miles drives and looks like a new car....besides the huge windshield crack. However, I've replaced tons of parts especially in the interior and I'm a fanatic when it comes to engine and trans maintenence. The goal is 300,000 with it still in decent shape.

Mine is at 90,000 miles and runs like new. I know there was one member on here that's already hit 200,000 miles and the car looks and runs great. I know the trans in stock form wont make it to half a million miles, but with the right maintenance, I don't see why the rest of the car wouldn't.

My biggest gripe with these cars is with mileage >60K, the leather starts to look like complete shit. My car is no exception. Although its Ebony in color, its just so wrinkly and worn out. Really bugs me- to the point where I'm considering spending $500+ to have it redone.

Oh and the rattles are enough to drive you insane. Still love my TL though.

my wife and I bought her 07 TL about 3 weeks ago. 49k miles and it drives like new. No rattles, cracks on the seats, ect. Carfax was perfect and well maintained.

Saw it on Craigs list for $25k, and over a period of about 2 months the dealer lowered the price to $18.9k. I negotiated the OUT THE DOOR price via email to $20.9k which brought the sticker down to $18.2k. (they added $200 window etching and something else stupid in addition to the tax and license to get it to the OTD price)

Keep looking, IMO $30k seems way too high, but prices may vary by location. Mine is also a base and not an S, but still.

I bought an 06 recently... 50k on the nose. Paid 17,700. Great ride. The leather issue is legit though. I'm thinking about getting it redone as well. Passed that though its a great car.
