AC Filter change at 22k?!

Acura dealer wants $100 to change the AC filter at 22,000 miles.

Are they screwing me or no?

The cabin air filter should be changed every year
You will be shocked at what you were breathing thru!
After the first time its much easier
If you own a screwdriver, flashlight, scissors and can work on your knees for 20-30 minutes
then YES they are screwing you
DIY and spend $20 at autozone or similar
Bosch makes one with anti mold fungus stuff built into it - good choice

It's easy BTW.

the airfilter is easy to change. Just follow the DIY and you can save 100 dollars. I did my airfilter at 27k and it was dirty and gray

Purolator makes one which I used in both of my 3G TLs last month. Cost is around $19 and installation is free since I do it myself. If you have a late model '04 (yes, there is a difference between the earlier and later '04's), plan on a 15-20 minute job. If you have an '05, the job takes about 10 minutes.

It's simple and did it end of last year. I might need to look at the sticky post since I forgot how to take it off.

It seems that way. I am definitely going to do the cutout when I do mine though. However, as I posted there, I recommend taking it off first, the first go around, and THEN doing the cutting!

Hahaha...I wonder if when I trade my car in, if Acura will do this change for someone and alert them to the cut, or just use my hole and still charge them for the install!

When I went to the rockauto website, the instructions look like I don't have to cut anything, let alone unscrew anything in the 06. Is this true anybody? I'm printing the instructions and going outside to look at this!

Sure enough, the diagram is short-changing in it's description of the instructions. All that does is get you to the area that hides the filter! AARRGGHHH!! Sooo, I'm going to follow the links that Ron A gave and cutout my own passageway to the filter!

I did mine today and it only took a few minutes. After reviewing the procedure, I don't see why you need to remove the stops and lower the door, as the door is just part of the panel. Seems to me that if you remove the 2 center push pins on the each side at the top, pull the complete panel back, undo the 2 electrical connections and then you can access the filter. To reinstall, just push the unit back in.

I don't know, maybe I'm missing something obvious, but next time the door or stops aren't going to be removed.

By the way, the filter was absolutely filthy!

If the question is directed to me, I purchased the factory filter online.

On eBay (aofeparts), I purchased 10 of the preferred Acura Filtech oil filters ($51.50), cabin filter ($16.25), washers, A/T washers, Acura PS fluid from a dealer in CA. and was only charged $10 for shipping as all were combined into one box.
