About to buy '07 TL-S with 105k miles
Recently came across these forums after looking to buy an 07 or 08 TL type s.
I came across an 07 with 106k miles on it for $12,800. Two owners on it, clean car fax, no accidents and well maintained. Driver side tire and rear passenger side tires might need to be replaced and the current owner hasn't done the 105k maintenance with the timing belt, water pump, etc.
Would love to get some opinions on if this is a good deal or not. Thanks in advance.

If it's clean and routine maintenance has been performed then it's a great deal. I'd try to get at least another $500 off for the 105k service because that will set you back $500-1000. Even if you pay $12.8k you could get both tires replaced and the 105k service done for about $14k total, which is still a great deal.

considering the repair costs, i wouldnt offer more than 12k. With the tires i'd offer something like $11.5-8.
odd wear pattern for tires to wear diagonally. I would also suggest getting a pre purchase inspection done at a shop or dealer of your choice.

A little more detail about the car. It's a private seller, he's the second owner and has had it since 20k miles when the first owner couldn't make the payments. I checked it out yesterday and from whatever I can see it looks legit and really clean. Black with GPS navigation; back-up camera; sunroof; Beige leather interior; heated seats; Bluetooth. My friend noticed a small bubble in the driver side tire and there were scratch marks, maybe from parallel parking in the right side rear passenger tire.
Maintenance history: From the carfax, all the recommended maintenance were completed by the Acura dealership, he got the transmission fluid changed at 40k miles. Brakes replaced, power steering hose line replaced, alignment performed at 88k. Air and cabin filters replaced at 96k. His father has a small mechanic shop and any small issues or general maintenance he took care of.
He listed it initially at 14,799. He said he could give it to the dealer for 12k, the best offer on the table is 12.7k, he said if I offer 12.8k it's mine. Would it be worth asking since his father runs a mechanic shop to do the 105k maintenance (timing belt, water pump, etc.)?
Thanks again guys!

I would say that's a pretty good deal. Car is taken car of, but make damn sure no bodywork or anything has been done. I bought mine from my own dealer 07 base with 85k for 13.4k last year, clean carfax.... after my inspection front bumper, both fenders, hood, rf door, rr quarter, rear bumper and trunk has been painted.... look flawless until it on a lift and saw runs and found a receipt inside the glove box for the repairs... DOPE! I would take it somewhere trustworthy to do the 105k service, not his dads shop. Someone that YOU trust and have a history with, or is recommended.

no no no, now a days you can not trust anyone unless you know them. His father will possibly overlook any issues with the car and tell you it is ok. Either take it to a independent mechanic or someone you know and can trust.

Yeah, I'll take it to a mechanic I trust for the 105k maintenance. Is the steering wheel usually kind of tight for the TL-S? It wasn't super tight, but wasn't really sure what to expect, never drove one before. Also, I wish I was able to put it through it's paces, he just moved close to NYC and I never really got past 40 mph.
I know the 105k maintenance would run around $500-$1000, but after that expense, the TL-S should last me a long time if maintained correctly, right?

yeah, that job comes around approx every 105k give or take a few thousand. Between them its just consumables and inspections (and replacing what's broken).
My 9 year old TL has been fairly trouble free for the past 20k miles since I bought it. hasnt had a major failure yet *knock on wood*.
Steering on the TL is pretty heavy, especially at a crawl. Dont worry your arms will get stronger and it builds character.

Yes, it should last you another 100k miles without any major maintenance items. You might have some compliance bushings fail or an axle seal start to leak, but those are cheap repairs and even DIY if you're mechanically inclined. Everything from the 105k on is pretty smooth sailing. With earlier 04-06 TLs, you had to worry about the time bomb trannys post 100k miles (or even earlier in some instances).
Yes, the steering is super tight with the auto TL-s. Even tighter than the manual TL-s. You'll come to appreciate the tight steering though.
Dude, I was just thinking today. I remember the first time I test drove my first TL-s. Man what a bad ass I felt like. I was coming from a 2000 Dodge Neon and it was my first ever "nice" car. Remember the feeling because you will never really feel anything quite like it again with a car purchase.
Also, don't let a little right hand pull scare you on the test drive. Both of my TLs have done it. Most road vehicles have what is called cross-caster. Cross castered vehicles have slightly different caster and camber, which cause it to drift slightly to the right while rolling. This is a safety feature so that un-manned vehicles or drivers who lose steering control will drift toward the side of the road instead of into oncoming traffic.

The steering on a Type S is a little tight. Its shouldn't take a barrel of monkeys to turn it though.
If it's been properly maintained, it will run into 300's no issues. Search around the forum, there are plenty of people in the high 100's and 200's that have no issues, other then the auto tranny taking a dump.
But it sounds like it was serviced very well. Good luck.

It's weird, the steering in my 07 manual type s is super light. My auto type s was ridiculously tight. I personally like the lighter feel as in my opinion makes the car feel lighter and more nimble. No clue why it feels so light on my manual type s but I like it.
