99 tl-p vs. 2008 wrx
Pulling up to a light I heard a blow out valve from a brand new WRX impreza sedan next to me. He gave me the "hey my car is faster than yours look". I dont know much about the new WRX's but I knew that he would probably take me even though my car moves out really good for a tl-p. So when the light turned green we both rolled off slow looking at each other, then we both hit it at the same time. We were both identical up to about 90 mph then we both let off knowing it was a tie. We slowed down and ended up talking at the next light. His car was stock, he only had a blow-out valve from his previous STI that was wrecked in an accident. I have I/H/E. He was surprised that my car was the same as his, as so was I. So tell me if thats good for my tl-p, I dont know what the new wrx sedans run 1/4 mile. Let me know.

congrats. the rex's are fast. maybe it was just because you didn't start from a dig but from a roll where our car's have the advantage under 30mph. 2007 Subaru WRX 2.5L Turbo (Non-STI) 5.3 (0-60) and 14.1 (1/4 mile) (May '07 C&D page 60) i found this online to give you an idea how fast the wrx is. Nice race.

2007 wrx does run low 14's as demostrated by C&D. I don't know about the new WRX here, but in Japan, the Impreza S-GT (250hp) 5AT can run 14.8. I am pretty sure 5MT is quite a bit faster than 5AT.

For them it's all in the ability to cut low 60' times, which is pretty much what drag racing's all about (traditionally with an F or RWD). From a roll, there was almost no question that you could keep up. Most of them suck from a roll and they get you on the street where you only go maybe an 1/8 mile before another light or traffic or something. Good tie, though!

nice race. the other day i was watching car and driver show or i think it was called cars 2008 or something like that in canada and they were comparing the new WRX to the old one. They said the new one is slightly slower and its handling got worse both on track and drag.

Pretty good results, I'm glad no one came to dispute the validity of the tie, because I'm pretty confident with your mods, you should have tied. But if you kept going til the top of your 3rd gear you would have passed him if you were even at 90mph. As he will be shifting out of 3rd you'll be at your powerband in 3rd gear, that's where you have the greatest advantage.

the wrx maybe a automatic -_-even the older one the wrx can smoke my type s. i just raced my friends legacy gt with just a SRI and he smoked me from a 10 mph roll.. well not smoke but he beat me by 1-2 feet. I was on his fender the whole time. and the legacy is slower than WRX..

Nice race. I'm actually surprised at the outcome. The new WRX is faster than the outgoing model. Not by much but still faster. Even Legacy's are running low 14's. The WRX is definitely faster.
Racing from a dig would be a totally different race.

Impreza SG-T 4AT like I said before run 14.8s, which is the same as a stock 2nd gen TL-S. A TL-p with those mods are probably making as much power as a stock TL-S. So on other words, the driver who jumped on the gas first had the better chance.

"The last WRX we tested sprinted from 0 to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds and turned the quarter-mile in 14.1 seconds at 98 mph. We’d never before seen numbers that good for a WRX, and the new one couldn’t match them, either, getting to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds and running the quarter in 14.4 seconds with a trap speed of 95 mph."

So a trap speed of 95mph, that's 1mph slower than the 2nd gen TL-S. The 14.4s time was probably due to the hard launch, which not many people would actually do it on the street unless they want to destroy the clutch.
From the story above, the OP and the WRX guy didn't launch hard, they started from a roll, and the result is pretty much inline with Car and Driver's results.
