is 40k too many miles for a 08 TL?

The car is over 2 years old, that's average mileage.

The average is 15000 per year so you can do the math. If your '08 was made early in the model year then I would say it is about average. If it was made late in the model year then I would say it is a little above but not by much.

Whatever it is, it is the accurate mileage, it's true mileage.
I don't need to do the math as this is what my 08 has. Peace.

I got my 06 TL less than 2 months ago and it had 45K. For an 08 it is a bit high, but not horrible. Like they said ^^ 10k to 15k is average mileage per year. You might be able to use the 45k to negotiate a lower price. Also, will this be an everyday car? how many miles do you drive a year? If you drive a lot, than you probably want to go as low on the miles as you can. But if you don't drive a ton, than that mileage would be ok.

Actually it is all price dependant. Our '08 knock around car had 56,000 miles, 2 years old this month and is like new.
Also, how many miles do you drive per year? If you drive quite a bit, the miles will climb in a hurry, and the value will deteriorate, but if the price is right, and the car is in excellent condition, we'll see you in a TL.

Or you could just recognize that it's a 3-4-5 right triangle and not worry about all those pesky formulas.
Back on topic: 40k over 22 months of ownership is about 1800 miles per month. A little high, but you need to dig a little deeper to find out what kind of mileage that is. If the previous owner had a long commute and logged 100 miles per day on the highway, that is not as bad as someone who drove around town all day in stop-and-go traffic. You're also bumping up to the limits of the OEM warranty, so you should look into getting an extended warranty, or if it's at an Acura dealership, getting it CPO'd.

^Amen. This is probably the 6th or 7th thread made by him.
40k isn't bad for a 08. A tad over average but nothing terrible.

I just hit 30k in my 04. I bought it a year and half ago with 7k. I drive quit a bit, but no long trips in it.
So it sounds like its a little high, but not that bad.

My '08 bought at the end of the year which i've had for 18 months now just passed the 20,500 mile mark.
I think that's pretty high...
It had less than 8k for the first 9 months but then I moved and my commute octupled.

40k is no big deal (although it is 10k over norm). If anything you should be getting a good deal on the price due to the fact that it has hit the 40k mark.
If you are getting a good price than go for it. If you are a high milage driver though don't expect to trade or sell it for a lot in the future.
Does the previous owner/dealership have the maintence records? If so then look at them and make sure it got proper service.
Anyone buying a new car should always keep maintence records. It will get you a better price if you keep up with said maintence.

it depends on where you live.. if you live in big city and the daily commute is consist of a lot of highway driving 40k isnt that bad... but if its 40k miles of a lot of stop and go traffic then yeah that pretty darn high... living in houston every where is driving on the high way so 50-60 miles daily commute is normal which average out about 20k+ miles a year but its all highway miles so yeah my

In reality with todays cars 40k in not a lot of miles. Most quality Japanese cars will drive 150k with little problem if they are maintained.
The problem is that most people think that an oil change every 3-5k is enough to maintain a car. It is not. You need to flush your radiator, clean your fuel injectors, and use proper petrol. buying the cheap fuel will only dirty your engine faster.
You can use the cheap fuel but if you do not maintain your engine properly than you will damage it. Cheap fuel is ok but you need to understand that you will require more servicing to negate the affects of cheaper petrol.
Also don't wait until your tank is empty to fuel up. If you want to keep the crude out of your engine than never let your tank get less than a quarter full.

Yep... Driving to Nashville, TN, and then Georgia and back to Nashville, and back to SA,TX. It's actually 1.5 weeks. But all the added driving will probably add up to around 4000 miles.
It's 1000 miles from here to Nashville. Then back. So that's 2000 miles. Then from Nashville, to Georgia for the Dragons Tail, it's around 250 miles there and back. The Dragons Tail itself is around 125 miles. So easy 650 there. 2500 so far. I will be driving all over Nashville for the International Z convention, so I expect at least 500-1000 miles driving around there. 3500 miles let's say. So closer to 4 than 5.

It's a little high but deffinately nothing to be worried about. How was the car maintained? Was it mostly highway miles or heavy city driving? You can use the extra mileage as a bargaining chip to get a better price. My 07 TL-S has slightly higher miles than average when I bought it. Didn't stop me.
