3rd Gen Philips 4 LED DRL's mod

Greetings all. I know this has probably been covered before but here's my quick overview of adding some cool looking (I think at least) LED DRLs to my 3rd gen TL. http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/d...tn=12820WLEDX1

I've been active in the NISMO forum with mods to my 240sx convertible but now that she's gone I'm doing simple things to the Acura. I've added a small rear spoiler, painted the brake calipers red and have now added these DRLs.

First off, start with a clean work space. Here we have maybe 3 inches of useable space.

Next pull the lower grille bits off. It's a combination of depressing a tab and pulling as you go. If you have someone to hold a flashlight it really helps. Once you've figured the tabs out it's pretty easy.

Clip out the entire section - not as it looks here. I have to go back and clip out the rest AFTER I'd already put the grilles back in the bumper.

You're going to want to pre-drill some hole into the grille to make your life easier. Especially since getting these suckers back in and screwed in is a real joy. You will pinch your fingers.

Get them started before you try and stick them back into the bumper. Also, make sure you align the bracket in the CENTER of the hole and not to one side as I've done here. Again, I had to take it out, trim more of the slat and put the bracket back in.

Here's where you think you'll be clever and pre-drill some holes in the bumper to make it easier to get the screws to go in. The holes need to be in the dirty part and getting a bead on where they will be is tough because they go in at an angle. I ended up just forcing the screws in like below.

And here they are in and working! The directions from Philips are pretty straight forward.

On with the light!

They turn off when high beams are engaged.

All in all a cool/easy mod if you've got some time. This took a me a couple of hours. Enjoy! Now to wash this beast.

I did something similar with mine, except I used Hella units and mounted them in the top slot towards the edge.

I was trying to stay within the 10 degree limit of the LEDs. I saw your post on the Hellas but and liked the look. At $79 these are a steal.

Good work! I do like the amount of light output; however I prefer the wider DRLs with 6-9 LEDs myself.

Splew, your DRL setup is what made me install mine! Mine are a bit blue at 6000k but I couldn't be happier with the mod. Thanks for the idea!

I debated going with the 8-LED kit from Philips as it wasn't much more expensive. In the end I opted for the 4 (personal preference) and the installation was easier because the section I had to cut out was smaller. It actually mounts flush.

It's subjective to be sure but I really like the look and wouldn't hesitate to do this mod on other cars/trucks to update the look. Not really sure what to do next - at 125,000 it probably should be the timing belt!

Are they always on with the low beams? If so they arent DRLs. I just got a DRL module and wired it to the foglight location in the stock headlights and I use them as DRLs with 5000K LED bulbs

They are supposed to dim when the lights are turned on and go out when high beams are engaged. I'm not sure how dim they get however. They do turn off and on by themselves however.

I'm not sure how I feel about them. I don't dislike them, but I feel that they'd look better if every punk with a Civic, Neon or Cavalier/Cobalt wasn't doing the same thing.
