I wouldn't be surprised if it was just the bottle and cheaper liquor inside
Chapter Leader (Southern Region)
I never order expensive liquor at the bar.. might as well go down the street and buy the whole bottle for the same price.
and I'm not a cheap date so.. probably broke before buzzed.

Joe and/or Justn, I've got a question for you-
I just got a quote to get my clutch replaced- this Honda/Acura place is asking $1950 to replace with OEM clutch. Well seeing as that's a bit of a rip off, have you ever done any clutch work before? I've never replaced a clutch myself, but I'm wondering if it is all that hard to do and that way I can save a ton of cash.
I'm guessing the hardest part is getting the transmission in and out of the car. I was thinking I would jack up the front of the car and put jack stands under the axles, and then use the jack itself to help move up/move down the transmission, as necessary. Is it really all that simple?
Also looks like I'd have to drop the subframe first... anything else? The subframe is just bolted in place, is it not? is there anything attached to it that needs to be removed? Would the jack trick work to lower/raise it into place?
Is it difficult to remove an axle? Any special tools? I know I need one for the clutch itself, but beyond that?

I haven't looked through the link you posted yet, but going through the service manual... shiiiiiet... I gotta take 3/4s of the engine bay apart. Maybe 6spd-Gerco did it better. Gonna check now.

$1950 CAD is not a rip-off, that's pretty standard stealershp pricing..
If you bring the parts, a shop that will do it for $700-800 CAD is probably pretty good..
now considering inflated CAD part prices.. we're probably back to 2k CAD
jack stands under axles.. you crazy brah.
subframe is bolted.. I don't believe any tricks needed.. just disconnect J-pipe..
I think Crabs has had his clutch replaced once..

Ok, wow. Yeah, I'm likely not doing that. Step 1 is to build an "engine hanger" to keep everything in place when you drop the subframe. I don't even have access to a welder

Looking around, it appears $1950CAN isn't a bad price, but, the guy never said if that included a new fly wheel or not. I never specifically asked for it and I don't know what condition mine is in. I'd hate to be hit with another $500 fee.
It's not super expensive, but I'm having a hard time paying 2k for a clutch in a car that's worth 6k. Le sigh...

I think I'll buy a new starter motor, clutch and flywheel, and let a shop go to town on it. It sucks not having my own Honda technician anymore, who did stuff cheap for me. paying retail sucks!
Chapter Leader (Southern Region)
you should definitely replace flywheel with clutch.. or I'll beat you (off)
Chapter Leader (Southern Region)
starter.. eh.. not unless it's crap.

I believe my starter is starting to go out. occasionally when I go to start the car, it'll cut out while turning over. let go key, try again, and likely works.
I figure if already dropping the tranny, why not replace it then too.

oh that's right.. you ranted about starter a while back.. wait, so you didn't replace it??
Chapter Leader (Southern Region)
I wonder if there are some gaps on the teeth of the flywheel..

Make sure you post about potential car replacements for 16 months before making purchase tho..

No I never replaced the starter. Just bitched about it starting to go.
Why? Well... my list of shit the TL needs is at 6k now... actual prices I've been gathering. Not everything is required... some of it I want to replace but don't necessarily have to, like new tint.
Considering options. Gonna talk to Wifey tonight and figure out what needs to be done.

Should just go steal parts off of el-jeff-eh's car while it's in storage. Or better yet, take the whole car but leave the front bumper just to add insult.

sigh... Part of it involves me admitting Justn was right... So maybe I don't want to go into it
clutch replacement (with alignment and tax): almost 2200
new starter 350
CMC 200
CSC 150
navi repair 225
retint windows 400 (this I'm guessing, but probably not far off.. Tint is fading to purple. Bleh)
brake shoes for ebrake 80
APP sensor 250
tranny drain and fill 3x3 150 (using GMSMFM)
new rear window motor replacement 175
probably add engine/tranny mounts in there... Haven't even looked into those yet.
Plus... Where Justn was right... Him and I had a long stupid argument about brake fluid on paint. I argued it to no end, because after my brake line burst, I end up getting fluid all over my fender. I wiped it up as soon as I could and it was fine for several months... Fast forward 10 months later, and the clear is peeling and the fender started to rust. FUCK. I also had some minor damage on the rear quarter, near the bumper. It's not terrible, but the paint is scratched and not repairable. I was quoted about 2k to have it all fixed properly. I could do without that, but the fender repair will easily be $800. Or I just roll on dirty.
So, yes, Justn, you were right and i was wrong and I'm a dirty whore sausage eater and I'm sorry for arguing with you. Oddly enough, that brake fluid also covered my rim when the line burst and it seems to be holding up still.

Hmmm. I figured I'd get my butt hole shredded here after posting the list. I'm surprised it didn't happen.
those prices are the cheapest prices I could find for OEM parts. Can't order from the US now. Too expensive. My other alternative is to go aftermarket parts, but fuck, they never last as long as OEM.
Why so quiet in here now?
