Something about that new Lincoln MKZ catches my eye every time I see one. I think it's a nice looking ride. And, as much as I dislike the Chrysler 300, something about the new 200 catches my eye as well.

J35? Bullshit, Marge!
Dealerships always low ball trade ins for a couple reasons.
1. They have no idea what needs to be fixed or replaced prior to reselling
2. They're in the business of making money. They take trade ins to sell at stupid high profit margins after. They'd likely post the TL up at 7.5-8k again. Someone comes in, gets it for 6.8-7k and goes home saying "shit, I got a wicked deal on dat car! I totally ripped that dealer off! And I got a free car wash with it!" While the dealership silently goes running to the bank with the sack of cash they just made.

I do drive a J35.. it's parked next to the TL.
I know how dealerships make money dingus. But I can sell the TL for 4k no problemo. If I sit on it, someone will take it for 5-5.5k. 1.5k was a fucking insult, and they didn't budge on the price. I told them to run the numbers again, lower the price by $2k. Then they came back and said $2500 with out a penny off the sale price, after I told them no trade. It's like saying.. we want to make $7k on this deal.. but with your trade we'll make at least $9k.. ok, you twisted our arm, $8k.
The saleslady had the fucking nerve to bring a print out of what a fair trade on the CTS-V is. I was like, then why don't you give me a fair trade on the TL? You expect me to believe you took the V2 on trade for that value then laughed. She pulled all the shady shit like telling me someone is coming on Monday to check it out. I told her, well it's not Monday is it.
Fuck I hate dealing with shady car sales people. She asked what I did.. she was like.. oh you can afford it.. plus your credit, look at your apr (I got financing for 2.25% on the V2). I told her, what about my colleagues who were out of work for 2 years in 2008. The warranty isn't transferable, I'll be negative if I have to sell it with these miles.. then just said GLWS. Walked out.

What were the stats? Was it manual, year, mileage, out the door price, sedan? I'm sure there'll be a better one for you.
Also, curious why you're moving on from the TL. Not because you shouldn't, I'm always going back and forth on whether or not it's time for me too.

Sack 10% away.. cash. Match 401k, don't put a dime more.. research the funds, be conservative now. When the market tanks, switch up your 401k funds. If they aren't any good, request to do a self-directed/managed acct.
Take the extra savings you had and open an IRA or fund or just save that money and wait til the metal is hot to strike.
Be an entrepreneur, make your money make you money (here's where the cas savings helps). It doesn't take a lot of ground work to make this happen. Just motivation, wits and taking the steps. You don't need to save a lot to start. Growth starts somewhere.

I wasn't telling you about it, dummy. lol.
But yeah, I HATE dealerships with a passion. You should just sell the TL yourself and put a bigger deposit on the V (unless you're buying it right out, which just helps your bank account again).
Even the shittiest TL seems to go for at least 3.5k. I assume yours is in better shape than that. Give 'er a nice polish and some young guy will be all over it for at least 5k. Winning.

Jeremy, Adam, Mr. Bell, Maj.
Maj, keep looking. When you find a better deal and seal it, cruise back thru that dealership like 3 mph and just stare those dealers down like "check me out now dumbasses"

Why would you contribute more than what your employer matches?..

I realized a very long time ago I'm never gonna get rich working for someone else. Gotta do it myself

Surely the v2 shouldn't sit in the sun and rain. It's sad to think it'll go to an auction lot if I trade it.. and if I sell it.. I want to make sure it's solid so I'll be putting in some elbow grease to get it ready if they do comeback to me on the price. Cars are just cars though mang. Drive what makes you happy. TL is fun, but blowing the fucking doors off nearly everything in an ultra plush saloon is too much for me to process. From bottom of the freeway ramp to the top, I must have hit 120 in it. Fuck yeah.

TL is fine. It's a nice blend of performance, handling and reliability. It's relatively cheap to own and fix. I'm looking to sell it because only room for 2 cars in the garage.

I should probably start thinking about moving on too at some point. I don't really have anything other than waxing and oil changes to fuck around with at this point.
I've been thoroughly impressed with Betty's car...so I wouldn't mind going Caddy too...CTS-V always seemed out of my price range, but a 3 or more year old one, I could make work in a major way. How excited you got about test driving it makes me want one even more.

I see the problem here.. You have to have something to be tinkering with and you've run out of shit to mod on the TL and all the sprinklers and shit on the house are fixed.

Gotcha...yeah, my ex landlord, who is a substantially wealthy man told me his father told him that a car is a piece of metal. Only love your family, not things.

People call the V2 a sedan 'vette. That's incorrect. It might be based on a similar platform as the VR1, but it's a different animal. Dealership had a VR1 btw.. that clear top hood is asinine. It was hot though.
